Middle School Journey
My journey as a freshman could be described in 3 words; reliable, optimistic, and adventurous. As I grow into my new self as a freshman, I discover what balances my personal and academic life. I learned to rely on friends, to be optimistic in school, and to always have a sense of adventure. As I stepped into this big new, scary school I realized how much time is going to change things. I always wanted to branch out and find new friends, since majority of my friends seperated schools at the end of our middle school journey. You always see in movies about cliques and groupings of friends that stay together. Therefore, I strived to find that in my school year. I never expected to be this lucky with the new friends I made. My friends this year always supported me on choosing sports and choices outside of school. They encouraged me to always try my hardest in schools and to strive to complete my goals. I continue to learn to rely on my friends not just for the constant support, but for making me the strong student I am. Joining a new school means facing a set of new challenges I wasn’t used to. I joined Oakton Dance Team in the fall because dance is one of my absolute passions. I didn’t expect much out of this team other than just a bunch of girls doing what we love. As Dance Team season evolved, I created friendships and memories unlike others. I completed goals like dancing at Nationals in January and competing at all the local competitions. Last year, I witnessed my sister at Dance Team Nationals and strived to have all those crazy adventures she had. Attending Nationals this past year was one of the greatest adventures I’ve ever been on. I took on Magic Kingdom alongside of all my best friends and danced my heart out on the dance floor. Dance Team as a whole is such a adventure of lifetime. As I move into my sophomore year of dance team, I take on all of those adventures and will go on so many

The dance team was doing magnificent, and with more experience, we started performing outside of our church, such as youth rallies, musicals, local events, and different churches. The girls had grown to love dance. The year was coming to an end, and we could not wait for what exciting performances and activites we could do the upcoming year. However, Tess, the captain of the dance team, was leaving to college. Some of the girls had gotten discouraged because they thought dancing was over, however, I was not going to repeat the same mistake. I took the iniative to pick the team up and continue the performances even after she left. We continued to practice, and each day we got better; we even were blessed to have more members to the dance team. And to this…

Ever since I was a little girl I dreamt about being on the Indianettes dance team. Dancing has been a part of my life from the age of four up until now. When I was younger I was not the best dancer but I loved it, and my mom already paid for my classes so i was kind of stuck doing it anyways. My eighth grade year I was preparing to tryout for the Indianettes, I was stretching, working on my technique, and working on my jumps and turns. It turns out that the old coach Sheri Bradley quit and the Indianettes had a new fairly inexperienced coach named MariAnn Barfus. I wasn't very confident about making the team. Long story short, I ended up making it along with Jaidyn Harris, Hannah Hyde, Daphnie Colpron, Carson Davis, Becca Osterhout, Mechelle…

It was a sunny day in August when I nervously started 6th grade at a new school named MSA, a charter school located in Santa Clara, with less than 500 people including middle and high school. Do you remember the first day of Middle School? When you stepped onto campus, and noticed how big this school was, looking for faces you recognized. And when you did, you ran up to them and talked to them like they were the most important person in the world, so you wouldn’t feel so awkward. You told them how nervous and happy you were. Here we are, three years later. Sitting in our dresses and whatever, knowing that in two months, we'll be doing the same thing at a different school. And if you look around in your seats, you'll notice that these are the people you've spent almost every day with, knowing that you wont be seeing all of the same faces next year. Faces that you may have just met this year. And faces that you will remember for the rest of your lives.…

The memory of my first big move is still fresh in my mind. I remember rushing to school, excited to tell my friends the news: I was moving from New Jersey to Phoenix, Arizona! After I brought my friends up to date, I proudly displayed my new disposable camera. Together we took many pictures, some of them meaningful and some comical. There were pictures of myself smiling and giggling with my friends and some of my teacher’s feet. As the moving date was slowly approaching, I began to feel resentment. I started hating the idea of moving to a new unknown place where I would have no friends. As it turned out, making new friends was not as hard as I thought because I was younger and I chose my friends superficially. However, I did have to learn to adapt to a new school and curriculum. I was not…

My freshman year at Spelman wasn’t one for the books, it wasn’t the definition of #goals, it wasn’t full of memories, in fact it was probably one of the hardest years of my life. For as long as I can remember, I was always a well-known member of my school’s student body. I was the girl teachers requested, I made everything I ever tried out for, and in every leadership position in almost every club. I can confidently say high school was great and I thought college would be even better.…

Many students claim that middle school is exceedingly straightforward and easy, whereas others claim that middle school is complex and difficult. For those who succeed in school and claim school is easy say that because they work diligently. It’s not because they are naturally talented. The students who say middle school is difficult and flounder in their studies say school is difficult because they don’t work assiduously and they don’t have perseverance. In fact, there are several kids at school who are talented fail their classes. This is because they don’t have grit and they are also often too lazy to do their work. In my own case, I am considered as one of the naturally talented people. Many of my peers think that I receive good grades because I am talented. However, I know this is not the case. In reality, I have been recieving good grades because I have been working diligently. Most homework assignments in middle school require hard work, critical thinking, and perseverance(which means no procrastinating). There are also many conundrums and…

Three years ago we all walked in here with the same mindset, were in middle school! As sixth graders we were all scared eighth graders would shove us in lockers, just like in the movies. But middle school really isn't like that were friends with different people and younger ones and ones we never pictured being friends with as sixth graders. Most of our friends aren't the ones we grew up with in elementary school, but that made us realize who true friends really are. Throughout our middle school years, there were ups and downs of every situation but our teachers, parents, guidance counselor and friends stood by our sides through it all. Saying goodbye will be hard, we will all miss each other even though we might not think so. Our teacher…

In life, there are periods of transition in which individuals often face daunting challenges or obstacles. Overcoming these challenges at pivotal points of transition can impel the individual to develop essential character qualities and skills for surmounting adversity. My transition into high school was momentous. Here I knew that the decisions I made would likely have a strong impact on my future. Therefore, I had to be meticulous about the extracurricular activities I wanted to be involved in. This mindset allowed me to stay focused and determined because I wasn't focused on going to the next party or the new music that was out. I cared solely about the legacy I left behind. That is why I decided to run for student government at the end…

Lately in practice, I have been thinking about how soon my dancing career will be ending. I have been dancing since I was three years old, and in a few short months it will come to a close. When I see that the ending is near, I want to give every practice all that I can. Instead of just moving through the motions, I think about how this may be one of the last times that I do a fouette or a leap. One day I will just be a mom of a dancer, wishing that I was the one out on the floor. When I realize that it's coming to an end, I feel so much love and gratitude for this sport. I have had the opportunity to dance more often on the drill team than I ever could in the studio. Although frequency was what caused burnout, I am grateful for the opportunity that I had to dance day after day with my team. I am rediscovering my lost passion for dance, and I am grateful for the person that dance has molded me into. Being on the drill team has taught me to never give up on what you set your mind on, even when times get hard, and to never lose passion for what you love.…

Change can be difficult part of a person’s life, oftentimes quite harrowing. Some may find change to be a good thing. I, on the other hand, find it to be more than former. This great change in my life was when my family was forced to move to a new city when I was fourteen. Not only, was I facing a great change, but it would be a change that would affect me for the rest of my life. When I found out that we were moving, I was frightened. I was going to lose all of my friends. I was going to have to start over. That was scary. Being the new kid in school is awful and upsetting, and I was not looking forward to that at all. Already being a shy person who has trouble connecting with new people, being forced to start at a new school was absolutely terrifying.…
