Midwife Personal Statement Essay
I have always had a strong passion for midwifery. I am a volunteer for the NHS in the Labour ward at the General Oldham Hospital. Having gained this rewarding experience for over 18 months, I am thoroughly aware that midwives take on a vital task, in helping women from the beginning of a pregnancy to after birth and beyond.
A content midwife guides a mother all the way through a healthy pregnancy, keeping vigilant to any complications which may arise. I observed working at the maternity unit, there was a diverse range of women whom all responded differently to the care given to them. In doing so, it has strengthened my desire for pursuing an enduring career as a midwife.

I have also observed how fundamental it is for midwives to have full control of their emotions, especially during the worst scenarios and to deliver the best possible care to the mother and baby.
I have worked as a multi-disciplinary team on numerous occasions. This was when still births occurred, and the forcep delivery procedure was initiated. As a result, the doctors, midwives, theatre nurses and obstetricians were immediately notified. Midwives are the main point of contact, for the women in intense situations and emotional times, it is imperative for midwives to stay calm and with their professional training, always have the best interest of the mother and baby in mind.
Since gaining experience I have become confident in a hospital setting and have a greater awareness of existing NHS practices, for instance ‘The midwifery 2020’ it identifies how midwives should deliver the best care in varying health care
