The opposite of what Mill states is what the biggest threat is, not being open to opinions and being closed minded. Bandes on the other hand talks about more serious things such as revenge, but that is not the greatest threat to shared humanity Bandes talks about. Disgust is the greatest threat, because it can take a little from multiple topics Bandes talks about, including revenge which make up the whole of disgust. Disgust is such a sting feeling that is comprised by multiple other feelings it could be the one which poses the greatest threat to shared humanity. Mill feels strongly about people being free to express their opinions. There are a few reasons Mill states of why it is so important to society and for shared humanity. First off it is healthy for the human mind individually. Shared humanity is about being there for others and being kind for no reason. Unfortunately there are many possible threats to shared humanity which could possibly put an end to it. Luckily Mill stresses how important it is to listen to people and their thoughts, their opinions matter and Mill does a great job explain why. Without the accepting opinions or even giving them a chance can possible harm the unspoken agreement of shared humanity. Bandes also talked about how disgust plays an enormous role in society, not a positive role unfortunately. Disgust usually leads to people or groups getting abused in some sort of way because the disgust uses emotions which can cloud judgment. Luckily time has shown through the centuries shared humanity is still around, and it appears to be staying even with everything working against
