MIDTERM EXAM MIMC 3765 – FALL 2013

ANSWER SHEET

1.IBM does a substantial amount of television advertising for its various computer products. On the other hand, Cray Research – the most successful builder of the supercomputers used by government agencies, the US Weather Service and large scientific research organisations – does no television advertising. In fact, Cray does very little advertising of any kind. Instead, the firm relies on the efforts of a small salesforce. Why do the two firms pursue such different promotion strategies? Disscuss and give 3 examples for similar companies in Vietnam.

The reason 2 firms pursue such different promotion strategies , cause of they are good competion . They have different customer ranger , so with IBM they have various products , and they always be the best choice when customer think about the computer , also have many models and promotion in newspaper , website , and TV advertising …It seems to be “ Think about Computer , Think about IBM “ , so cause of their promotion of their firm , it’s acttract the costumer always think about their brand , so that the promotion is very important this IBM compay , the more money they spend for promotion , the more money they will receive for selling products .
But also , with Cray Research they have a super computer is used by gorverment and professor , scientific research and also for securities , and the products they sale for one year wasn’t much , but they are the best one in this case their competion are these brand in Japanese such as : NEC , Hitachi , and Fujitsu….but their product is better than the others one . So , they no need to focus in promotion , cause the customer must come to them , for their product and they also have their private customer and they only focus to them .
Examples :
1. Camera for travel they have more promotions in TV , newspaper…but in other hand , digital camera (DSLR ) use

The marketing mix should consist of the following: the right product; making sure it’s sold at the right price; in the right place and to make sure it’s used in the most suitable promotional techniques. Furthermore, one example of a company who ensures it meets its marketing mix is Sainsbury’s. Sainsbury’s as a marketer ensures that their products have the right features – for example: looking good and working to a satisfactory standard with its customers. Sainsbury’s also ensure that they meet their marketing mix by ensuring that their prices are right. In order for the company to take in a huge sum of profit, they must ensure that their prices are right so that consumers can buy in large numbers in order to provide profit towards the company. They also ensure that products are in the right place at the right time so that they can provide a service to their consumers efficiently in order to make profit. Finally, the last technique that Sainsbury’s will use to meet their marketing mix is promotion. In order to meet their marketing mix, Sainsbury’s advertise and promote their existence to their target audience so that they are aware of their products. Ideally, successful promotion helps a firm spread costs over a larger output which is why Sainsbury’s focus purely on this marketing technique. However, there are other methods/ techniques that are authentic to Sainsbury’s alone such as divisions. Hence, Sainsbury’s divides its customers and marketing department into three components. A marketing team will focus purely on improving the brand awareness across a range of channels and outlets using Sainsbury’s website. Moreover, the companies media team will focus on maintaining a positive image in the newspapers and television along with magazines and the internet while the customer team focuses on improving and working on the aftersales experience of the company.…

Henry Payne's cartoon "For Illegal Immigrants by Illegal Immigrants" shows us the Irony of Donald Trump wanting to build a Wall/ Fence, to keep illegal immigrants out of the united states. Payne's cartoon is ironic because Trump wants to get rid of immigrants but yet immigrants are the ones that do the dirty jobs other legal people don’t want to do. Trump wants illegal immigrants to build the very wall that will keep the out of a country that offers liberty and many opportunities for all kinds of people. Payne’s cartoon has bias against the fact that Donald Trump Wants to build a wall to keep immigrants out of the United States. Payne’s cartoon will help my paper because it tells people that are in favor of the wall being built that without…

Competitive advantage as explained by Lamb, Hair, and McDaniel, “is the set of unique features of a company and its products that are perceived by the target market as significant and superior to the competition,” (p.472). This explanation sufficiently explains the relation between promotional strategy and competitive advantage…

In term of brand performance, the data discloses that the difference between bigger brands and smaller brands is the penetration level. It also is proved that Double Jeopardy law exists in competition among brands. That is smaller brands tend to have less customers who will expectedly buy less often than bigger brands. Furthermore, when looking at the way brands share their customers within a category, duplication of purchase law applies through out the table 2 in section 1. However, exceptions also exist as they are called Partitioning. The reasons to explain partitioning is due to the distribution channels. I have completed my assessment for immunisations in February 2012 and I can tell you I’ve come a long way since working with mentors Sarah, Veronica and Vicky. In the beginning it was a nerve wracking and very stressful experience administering these immunisations. I had to overcome wriggling babies, crying mothers and uncomfortable Dads; siblings who have launched themselves at me because they thought I was hurting their brother or sister; I have also had a challenging time immunizing triplets. However the most important aspect of the immunizations was understanding what to give and when to give it and more importantly who gets them. Record keeping namely electronic record keeping is also paramount especially when some parents are adverse to keeping any records of their own ie keep forgetting to bring the red book or outrightly just losing it. The issue of gaining consent is ever before me because of an incident involving MMR reported to me by Sarah. My practice is that I take the temperatures of all my clients due for childhood imms to establish a baseline. Also I have learned from my mentors not let myself be bullied by clients parents into giving the immunisations when there is clear evidence that the child has symptoms of a cold, runny nose or clearly looks unwell. I have also made it a practice of checking the vaccination fridge temperature and recording same whenever I’m on duty. I also do not prepare the vaccines before hand just in case the client is unable to receive the imms. Attendance at yearly updates is useful to help keep me up to date and make sure my practice is on level with research evidence and also to address any issues I may have out in…
