Strengths:
Cisco is a worldwide leader in providing Internet networking equipment.
Cisco has been around for 30 years and has been a public company since 1990. They have been an international company since 1991.
From 1991 to 1999 Cisco grew faster than any other company going from a worth of $1 billion to $300 billion.
In March of 2000 Cisco was been considered the most valuable company in the world.
Cisco successfully produces both hardware and software products.
At the end of 2008, BusinessWeek ranked them at the 18th largest global brand.
Weakness:
Despite their success at the end of the 20th century Cisco still has low brand awareness.
Cisco is known for the price of their stock and do not have any understanding of what the company has to offer.
There are several competitors in the market that they have to successfully compete against.
Opportunities:
Cisco’s new marketing campaign and message “This Is the Power of the Network. Now.” gives the company an opportunity to improve public awareness of the company and future success.
They have proven their success in the technology industry and have began to expand the products they offer. For example, they developed “Cisco Connect Sports”, which transforms stadiums into “digitally connected interactive venues”. They have opportunities to enter several additional markets.
Continuing to acquire new companies that help them to expand and stay current with the up and coming technology advances.
Threats:
As they enter in to the newer markets they are now competing with bigger companies, such as Microsoft, IBM, and Hewlett-Packard.
In order to stay current they have to improve their advertising efforts to be able to compete with these companies, which can be costly.
Cisco may be entering too many markets at once, which could end up hurting them.
