“Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of us all”. We all know the famous quote from the Fairy tale, but do we know that the answer should be “ME”. Although that might sound conceited, the fact is that every person should have the ability of looking in the mirror and saying, “that’s me and I love me!”

Loving yourself is not an easy thing to do but it is worth the effort. Loving yourself is not about skipping meals with the goal of becoming thinner. It is not about depriving your body of the food it needs to fit into some “cool” outfit. It is not about wearing the clothes everyone else is wearing even if you don’t feel comfortable in it. It is not about pretending to be somebody you’re not just to be inside the circle. It is not about following what your parents or friends ask you to do because you’re too scared to hurt their feelings.

Anorexia statistics are grim. According to Anorexia Nervosa and Related Eating Disorders, Inc., without treatment, up to 20% of people with serious eating disorders die. With treatment, 2 – 3% of people with anorexia die. With treatment only 60% of sufferers make a complete recovery and 20% make a partial recovery, which means they have the potential of becoming full anorexia sufferers again. People with anorexia can suffer a number of potentially fatal medical conditions, including heart disease, kidney and liver disease, and potassium and magnesium imbalances that can lead to heart failure.
