MAYOR OF LONDON, and THE GREATER LONDON AUTHORITY (GLA)
Introduction
This report will contain discussion about Greater London authority Mayor of London who is called Boris Johnson and about the powers and responsibilities of the GLA and the Mayor. In this report I will analysis the policies that relate to “the environment” which introduced by the Mayor in the last 5 years which was announced by the Office of the Mayor of London. I will analysis the policies in academic and news sources and Critical evaluation of the evidence provided by the literature sources used. On the other hand the report will concentrate on the gap between the development of policy, and the implementation of based upon written material about the actual variations in London which may have resulted from the policies focusing on the priorities that the Mayor has identified. I will also analyse the opinions from the survey which I have given to students at GSoM concerning the implementation of environmental policies in London, focusing on a particular policy that has come from the GLA during the past 5 years and finally a conclusion regarding the efficiency of the GLA and the Mayor of London in undertaking important issues that relate to “the environment”.
About GLA
The GLA was created and authoritatively established on 3rd of July 2000 by the GLA Act of 1999. “The GLA Act of 2007 introduced additional and enhanced powers for the Mayor of London and the London Assembly in several areas including housing, planning, climate change, waste, health and culture.”
There are 3 different ranges of accountability of Greater London Authority which are financially viable expansion and prosperity formation, social expansion and environmental enhancement. All these three areas of responsibility are strengthening by six different governmental themes such as sustainable expansion, equal opportunity of prospect, health disparity, and climate change
