spend a great deal of time planning their massacres, and they wanted attention and recognition.
One reason individuals are to blame for the violence that happens in schools is that teenagers are aware of the concept of consequences.
Mark Manson wrote an article, “How we all Miss the Point of School Shootings”, explaining that the shooter is to blame because of all there origination and devotion they put into their massacres. In “How we all Miss the Point of School shootings” the author states, “[School shooters] write down their plans and make a checklist so that others may follow in their footsteps”( Manson). This is a perfect example of why the individual is to be blamed, these teenagers want to document these tragedies because they want to be known for what they're capable of. School violence usually involves teenagers and these students are aware of their consequences and they know exactly what they are doing and they still continue to commit these crimes. He also states, “ These shooters are aware of what they are doing. They’re not crazy. They don’t just snap”(Manson). Mansons article explains that the shooter is to be blamed, these individuals know what's morally right and wrong but choose to make the wrong …show more content…
choice.
Another reason the individual is to blame is because they spend a great deal of time planning and scheduling their crimes. Teenagers commit crimes to prove a point, and to prove to others that they are capable of doing anything and everything. In “How we all miss the point of school shooting” he also states, “Most of them spend months or even years planning their massacres”(Manson). This example proves to you that they take the time to plan what there gonna do and that they have had time to realize it's wrong but they still go through with it.If these children had the time to write out plans and write maps and study different ways to make different explosives to kill the lives of their fellow classmates, then they should be held accountable. Petro Report wrote a small article called “Columbine Highschool Massacre”, he explained to all of his readers that he thinks the individual is to blame because they spend months planning a school shooting and they had time to stop what they are doing and receive help. “In Columbine Highschool Massacre”, The author states, “Harris began a blog which included instructions on how to cause mischief, as well as instructions on how to make explosives”(Petro). Harris made a blog just to teach people to become delinquents and to cause mischief just like him. All of these statements provide evidence that show you these children are making these choices and are aware of what is happening and are even trying to convince others to commit crimes as well. At last, the individual is to blame because they choose to commit the crime; no one forced them to become violent and no one forced them to bring a gun to school and take the lives of innocent people. Like any other human being, they have the right to decide what they do and what they don't do, and they choose to go through with it because they crave the attention. The “school shooter” states, “24% motivated by desire for attention or recognition”(Shooter). In the Shooter, it explains that these troubled teenagers go through with such acts to gain the attention they are deprived of. These students want their teachers, parents, fellow classmates, to recognize them for their power and there actions. In The “School Shooter: A Threat Assessment Perspective” The author Mary Ellen, states “The student constantly expects special treatment and consideration, and reacts negatively if he doesn't get the treatment he feels entitled to’(Ellen). Mary Ellen is explaining that the students who tend to be school shooters feel as if they need special treatment and attention from he or she's fellow peers. School shooters crave attention and crave the acknowledgment from others and wants to be recognized no matter how bad the consequences might be. Even though the individual is clearly to blame, some people will still argue that either the schools, the parents, or media is to blame for the cause of school shootings.
Most people hold the parent of the school shooter responsible for their child's actions. In “After Mass Shootings, do Parents Shoulder Some of the Blame, Kelly Wallace states” “[Adam Lanzas mom] Laurel Harper wrote, that both she and her son suffered from a mental disorder called Asperger Syndrome”(Wallace). Kelly Wallace is trying to use Adam Lanza's mom's story to make it seem as if she is to blame for her son shooting twenty kids and six teachers at Sandy Hook elementary. It doesn't matter that Adam and his mom have a mental disorder, Adam was aware he had this mental disorder and was aware there was treatment and he choose to shoot innocent students and teachers. Other peers are going to try and blame the school because they think the school isn't helping students with bullying and that they're not punishing the children for bullying other students. Schools can only punish children to a certain point, the administration can not force these children to get along. The administration can only try and point them in the right direction and try to teach them to treat others around them with respect. Now everyone is going to want to blame Society and Media only because they think it's easier to blame since everyone blames society for their problems anyways. “In The Social Roots of School Shootings,” Brad
states “But they were often socially awkward and struggling to fit in”(PLumer). Brad is trying to make it seem like society is to blame because the shooters are “socially awkward” and “don't fit in”. Those are a bunch of excuses because these children wants to feel bad for themselves and don't want to put effort in to make friends, they expect friends to show up at their doorsteps. You can't blame society for you not putting in any effort, if you want some friends, go out and show your peers that you have a great personality and there you're fun to be around. Don't blame the schools, or the parents, or society and media because it seems easier to prove, the individual is to blame because he or she knows what they're doing and making excuses for them isn't helping them. Some will still argue that either the school or the parents or the media is the problem, but the individual is to blame because, they are aware of their consequences, spend a great deal of time planning their massacres, and they wanted attention and recognition. The individual is to blame because they know what they are doing is wrong and still go through with it. You can't blame the parent or the school or society for the individual's mistake because you are making excuses for these criminals. School shooters should not need special treatment and no one should make excuses for them because they know it's wrong and they know what their consequences are and they choose to do it. By making excuses for them, you are defending them, and no one needs to defend a school shooter because the crime they made is unforgivable and no one forced them to take innocent lives. If someone is held accountable for shoplifting or for running a stop light then a school shooter should be held accountable for their actions.
