Mission Trip
In June of 2015 I went on a mission trip with my Youth Group of First Baptist Church to London, England. When over there we would be staying in a tiny town outside of the city, Stanmore. Being religiously diverse town someone could have a Muslim neighbor on one side and a Jew on the other side. Some of us in the group felt the coordinator for our trip exaggerated. After months of fundraising and preparing for the trip it finally came and excitement filled the air. Two days before the plane ride to London I walked down the steps at my house. Sadly, that was not me I was walking off the sidewalk and onto the grass going to my friend’s car. I fell down as I took a step onto the grass, hearing a painfully loud crack and instantly knew I twisted …show more content…
James’s Park that is nearby that has a plaque on a trail dedicated to Princess Diana. Later that day we went to the Tower of London, where I proceeded to walk through a part of the torture chamber that it once had, also went into a tower called Bloody Mary’s tower from when Queen Mary ruled. Walking up the staircase in the tower proved difficult not only for me but many others because of the narrow and uneven the steps are. Not being claustrophobic the stairwell made me feel like the walls may cave in or crumble at any moment because the age. I saw that they constantly work on the buildings in order to keep everything safe and close to what it looked like all those years ago. I also saw the crown of jewels exhibit and some of the history of it. At one part of the exhibit they play Queen Elizabeth II’s …show more content…
There so happened to be a wedding taking place in another part of the building. The girls in the group talked to some women that walked in the praying area of the temple mentioning how they loved their outfits. Another time we walked several miles to a Hindu background church and sat through their service and ate with them afterwards. It was my first time that trip and ever to eat curry. One of the last places we visited religion related is a mosque in a nearby town. Out of respect everyone in the group dressed appropriately all the males wore pants and nice shirts, the women wore shirts that covered at least the shoulders, pants or skirt down to the ankle, and a scarf to cover our hair. That same day we visited a school and met some student that were our age, we toured their school and after just talked about differences between our countries. We also went to a church member’s school where he taught elementary students. There we taught the kids’ gym classes what we do in America’s gym class. But with my broken foot I could not participate like the others in what they taught so I helped our Youth pastor, Rob, who taught the students American football. I am glad I was able to still go on the trip even though I had the broken foot and could not play soccer or any sports, and participate as much as the others on the

This investigation used spectroscopy to evaluate light absorption in different solutions. A spectrophotometer was used in the lab to determine these values. A spectrophotometer is an apparatus used to “measure the absorption of radiation in the visible and UV regions of the spectrum and allows precise at a particular wave length” (Jones et al., 2007). The amount of light absorbed by a substance is directly in relation to the concentration of the solute and also the wavelength moving through the solute (Jones et al., 2007). This is commonly referred to as Beer’s Law and can be expressed as A= εl [C]. Beer’s Law equation measures the absorbency of light, making it an effective measure as spectrophotometers give exact values for absorbency (Jones et al., 2007).…

First of all, I cannot omit the story of Annalena Tonelli. She was eager to help Muslim refugees. She was not a doctor but focused on building hospitals and treating tuberculosis which was prevalent in Kenya. Even though she suffered a lot of assaults and even expelled, she did not abandon her mission. She started her mission again in Somalia. She was the friends of all in where she lived regardless of their religious tradition, and she believed that this is the calling from Jesus. Tonelli did not focus on conversion but on showing her life serving the poor and the week with God’s love to all as a testimony for God. What I really impressed is that all Muslims who know her thought that she is their loving friend in spite of what she was a Christian.…

My involvement in missions has taken up the better part of the last fifteen years of my life. I have never personally gone out to the field, but I have been a very huge supporter of the movement. I have been the director of my previous church’s missions ministry. With this position I was able to reach out to missionaries in over thirty-five different countries and send donations on behalf of my church. We would also host these missionaries whenever they were…

Since the beginning of American history, stories of brave individuals and how they have helped shaped the nation into what it has become has been a popular subject. While a large number of stories exist, one must recognize that a few have been twisted into various myths and legends such as the tales of Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, and John Henry. However, one must also remember that not all stories involving the history of our nation are exaggerated such as the previous examples and that the majority of them are actually historically accurate. Although these stories and events provide entertainment to younger individuals, it is vital to acknowledge that if they had not occurred, then some things may not exists. For example, the Alamo - had it not been for this small mission and the band of rebels whom fought for it, things would surely be a lot different. The Alamo was originally built so that the Spanish Empire could help educate local Native Americans as well convert them to Christianity, but it would also play a pivotal role in helping Texas gain independence (Hutton 38). In addition to the Alamo, the men whom fought in it would also go down in history as great heroes, and some even becoming iconic figures in American history, such as Davey Crockett. Although the Alamo 's story has changed over the years and some parts still unsolved, one thing is certain - without the Alamo, the brave men who fight within its walls, and their firm belief in Texas independence, the United States would be a much different nation than it is today.…

In my freshman year, I went to Ohio Mission Trip, which was led by Mrs. Lundquist. While I had an amazing life experience through volunteering, I was able to become closer to my friends and upper classmen. Darby and Sydney Lundquist also joined the trip, and they shortly introduced me about Washington and Lee University. I assumed the college should be very advanced since they were well-known for their excellence in intelligence and sports. This year I attended a college meeting with Mr. Webster to get to know more about the college. It was a great opportunity for me to grasp a big picture of the school as well as more specific details of admissions. I immediately fell in love with the school as Mr. Webster explained about the school in detail.…

This summer, I was blessed with an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to travel to Haiti on a mission trip. Of course, I was slightly nervous about traveling to a third world country, where I did not know the language, and the only people I would know would be the people from the church that I was traveling with. However, I knew this would be a life changing experience, so I took the leap! I am so grateful I did because every second was worth it! Our mission was to work with orphans, help homeschool English speaking children, and meet with the women’s group of Grand Savann Christian Church.…

Anybody could have told me he or she were going on a mission trip four years ago, I would have gave them a simple nice reply, then I would have forgotten all about it. That changed after I experienced my first mission trip to Arkansas. Today if anyone talks to me about a mission trip, I become very enthusiastic. I start asking them many questions, and want to know every detail about their…

Many people go on Mission trips to support other communities that are in need, but some go for the many friendships and experiences that last a lifetime. I went on Mission Trip 2015 to Eagle Butte, South Dakota for both reasons. I had always remembered day three of Mission Trip 2015 because I helped the Cheyenne River community, made friends with people from around the state, and renewed old friendships with people from my own school.…

From there on everything went on smoothly. I made sure to stay with my group at all times. My professor made sure to keep an eye out for me as well. I learned to never run down a mountain and to stay with my group. I had to limp the rest of the trip, but despite all the happened I had fun. It was a trip of many first and all the things I got to do and see made the fall seem so petty. My injury has not healed but the memories of the trip are going to stay with me forever. On the bright side, when it does heal I will have a scar to show off and a great story to…

Theresa’s Church. Last spring break I attended a service trip in the Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee. The area that we went to was the second poorest county in the state. During my time there, we helped fix up houses of the people who live up in the mountains. These people lived in cheaply made, small houses that I couldn’t imagine living in, especially raising a family in. Throughout the week we put in new carpeting, painted walls, and built porches for the three families. My experience helped me be more grateful for what I had and opened my mind to how people in our own country live. Although my spring break experience this year will be much different than that, I believe that it was very important that I attended that trip first because it provided me with a foundation of what I want to do every year during spring break. Also that trip helped me mature and grow as a person which will make the transition to a location out of the United States much…

When I reachedAbha, my heartiest desire was to perform Umrah. The first thing in my mind was to visit the Holy city of Mecca.By the grace of God, just two months after my arrival there, I went for my first Umrah. That lucky day came in the Holy month of Ramadan. On 21stRamadan we left for Mecca by Saudi Public Transport Co. (SAPTCO) bus. (SAPTCO provide public transport across Saudi Arabia and some parts of neighbouring countries.) We boarded the bus at about 4:30 pm.I was feeling very excited and continuously asking many questions to my father aboutUmrah as he had already performed one before. After about 15 minutes the bus started, the bus was very comfortable. After about an hour later, there was an announcement in the bus regarding Maghribprayer time and asking all the passengers to have our Iftaar and break the fast. As we were travelling, couldn’t hear MaghribAzaan, the timing to break the fast was announced by the guide in the bus. The bus authorities had provided Iftaar in a box.…
