When we speak of “Morality” we think of the difference between right and wrong, the difference between the good and the evil. We use morality to justify our actions and decisions. More often than not, people impose their morality on others and expect them to act in the way they find fit. They believe that the idea of right and wrong is universal. In her essay “On Morality”, Didion contradicts this theory and believes that everyone can have different ideas of morality based on their own perception.…

Freakonomics is intended to challenge ones prior beliefs and the conventional wisdom of the reader. Conclusions derived from various investigations described throughout the book will often shock you. Some may even irritate your sensitivities. The authors, Steven D. Levitt an economist and Stephen J. Dubner a writer, do not argue that conventional wisdom is “always” wrong, but they do conclude that the conventional wisdom used as an explanation for many social issues is unexamined, unquestioned and often incorrect. Freakonomics provides you with real life examples of incentives and how they affect human behavior. It shows how everyday situations, purchases, and decisions affect the economy, and how humans are tempted to participate in different activities because of incentives. This book discusses the economy and how it is affected in the perspective of life. The authors provide you with statistics and evidence that they have collected to defend their statements. You will find the topics interesting and would never imagine the role they take in the economy. While reading you will hear about the “butterfly” effect and how an event can affect someone or something years down the line and have undesired or unexpected effects.…

Some time ago, I wrote a guide on how to run PlayStation 2 games on your computer using a console emulator. This time, I'm planning a tutorial un how to emulate GameCube games (PS2 rival) at decent speeds on your computer. This emulator is rumored to also play Nintendo Wii games, but I'll make an update regarding that rumor as soon as I can confirm it. Now, for those of you that don't know exactly what the GameCube is, you should know that the GC is a sixth generation console and direct competitor of the PlayStation 2. Titles such as Resident Evil Zero or Resident Evil 1 remake made the GameCube a sought after console by gamers around the world. In these next few lines, I will be teaching you how to configure your emulator so that you'll be playing lots of GameCube games on your computer in no time. First of all, download the latest x86 version of the game. After downloading it, extract the emulator (it usually comes inside a .rar or .zip archive) into a folder of your choice. WARNING: after hours of attempts, only the x86 version allowed me to play GC games. The x64 version was slower and presented serious graphical artifacts. So, even if you have x64 Windows or just an x64 processor, go for the x86 version. After extracting the emulator, it's time to start configuring it (you'll notice it's much simpler than the PCSX2). First of all, enter the folder in which you extracted the Dolphin Emulator and double click the DolphinIL.exe file. The normal Dolphin.exe offers a lot less speed and compatibility. The main window of the Emulator has appeared. From the OPTIONS tab, choose CONFIGURE. There, you will only have to make sure you've ticked the Enable Dual Core, all the Advanced settings, the Use Panic Handlers option and setting Hide Cursor on Auto . You will find all these in the GENERAL tab. Going back to the OPTIONS tab, you…

The Leap Motion controller is a small USB peripheral device which is designed to be placed on a physical desktop, facing upward. Using two monochromatic IR cameras and three infrared LEDs, the device observes a roughly hemispherical area, to a distance of about 1 meter (3.28084 feet). The LEDs generate a 3D pattern of dots of IR light and the cameras generate almost 300 frames per second of reflected data, which is then sent through a USB cable to the host computer, where it is analyzed by the Leap Motion controller software using "complex maths" in a way that has not been disclosed by the company, in some way synthesizing 3D…

In the seventies video games were fairly new. Some companies were successful. One of those companies was Colecovision Telstar. The first game systems were not powered like today’s game systems are. In the seventies they were powered by batteries but today’s video games get their power from electrical outlets. The games were silent. The only noises were the computer making sounds. It was only beeps. The Odyssey, which was the first game system only worked on a certain televisions. The Atari Pong’s engineer thought it would be good to bring arcade games home so that you could play them on your own televisions instead of going to and arcade and spending money on it to play. The Odyssey 100 was the first game console to be powered by battery or an AC adapter. Meaning instead of using batteries you could plug the system into an electrical outlet for power. The Odyssey 200 was the first game console to have more then one game in it. The Wonder Wizard 7702 had the circuit board of they Odyssey 300. In 1976 Colecovision Telstar first game system was released and had three different games and three difficulties. This console was partially assembled. When you got it home you had to put knobs on and stickers on. The Fairchild Channel F was the first programmable video game console, it also had cartridges you could plug in. Which meant you had more games then the ones that were programmed in the console. The Atari Stunt Cycle let you play as a motorcycle rider. You did not play in the first-person mode but during that time felt realistic. The Atari…

Aldi and Lidl: International expansion of two German grocery discounters1 It’s the best business model for retail in the world. Philippe Suchet, food industry consultant, BNP Paribas With a worldwide annual sales volume of € 3.7 trillion in 2007 and an average annual sales growth of 2.7% during the last ten years, the grocery retailing industry can be considered as one of the world’s key economic sectors. Over the last decades, grocery discounters such as Aldi and Lidl have strengthened their position in the grocery retailing industry – especially in Germany and Europe. With their no-frills approach, they have led to significant changes in the industry and have challenged many companies, which operate other store formats such as supermarkets or hypermarkets. In this context, a Financial Times report on international retailing noted in 1995: "The spread of the discount format has been particularly disruptive to Europe's grocery retail industry and has driven retailers to examine cross-border markets." Exhibit 1 illustrates the leading grocery retailing companies in the world and on a…

Meitheal is an old Irish phrase which is used to define neighbours coming together in order to help in the saving of crops and or other tasks. Nonetheless in this situation it is a National Practice Model that makes sure that the strengths and needs of children and their family's are identified, understood and responded too in an effective and timely fashion so that those children and families can get the help and support that they need to improve the children's outcomes in life and realise what their rights are.
