His work to improve the civil rights in America holds true with the definition of entrepreneurship, which is “a process of pursuing opportunities without limitation by resources currently in hand.” (Brooks, 2009, p.3) With a vision of an equal world where people of all races have equal rights and live in peace, Martin Luther King took his opportunity to protest against racism when the country was stirred by the story of Rosa Park not giving up her seat on the bus to a white person. Martin Luther King was arrested but it did not discourage him. King and other civil rights activists from Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) later conducted a lot of non-violent protests in the service of civil rights reform.
According to Arthur C. Brooks, “social entrepreneurship addresses social problems or needs that are unmet by private markets or government.” Non-violence is Martin Luther King’s innovative solutions to the critical problem of inequality among races in America. This problem was not only unmet but also suppressed by the current government.
Also since “social entrepreneurship is motivated primarily by social benefit,” (Brooks, 2009, p.4) Martin Luther King is a great example of a leader whose actions are for the greater benefit of the society. His faith in the future equality of America gains the respect of many political leaders and activists. I am inspired so much by his belief and courageous actions towards the benefit of others. It does take a person with great belief like Martin Luther King to make possible the passing of the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act for African American.
