Early in the Holocaust, German army units participated in the massacre of the Jews in Eastern Europe. Among these, the Reserve Police Battalion 101 was made up of civilian police men, German men, and volunteers subject to the military draft. They were middle-aged working family men with a lower middle class background. Their main purpose was to be an essential source of manpower in holding down German-occupied Europe. In 1941, they were told that they had to perform a gruesome and undesirable task executing the Jewish population in the area they patrolled. My paper will be focusing on factors that lead up to how these “ordinary men” allow themselves to be a part of a systematic genocide. In trying to understand the factors that made these men’s crimes possible the factors that are central to their actions are several: peer pressure and conformity, the roles, the developing of a rationale for killing, and the environment they were in. Without these elements, the men of Police Battalion 101would not have become executioners.…

Other real-world examples of how organizations have used IOP to select and train employees are the State Police Departments. Police Department selection and training of employees are very similar to the Marine Corps’ recruitment process. According to the San Diego Police Departments Mission Statement, their purpose is to “maintain peace and order by providing the highest quality police services.” San Diego Police Department hired industrial-organizational psychologists to develop standards to strengthen the selection and training process; particularly police officer screening.…
This essay will demonstrate the development of ethical leadership by discussing leadership traits and characteristics that I believe are important in the transition from probationary constable to a first line leader. It will also include methods on how this transition can be successfully achieved. The discussion will also contain a self-assessment of my own leadership strengths and weakness, and suggest developmental approaches to improve my leadership skills. Being employed as a police officer brings a consistent standard of morals and a high degree of integrity within one self, whilst promoting these same characteristics of other police officers, the New South Wales Police Force (NSWPF) and the general public. These traits are essential…
Police History Kenna Puckett CJA/214 October 20, 2014 Eric Crawford Police History Policing in the United States dates back to the 1800s, but the police of the modern world are much different from the first police that took patrol. The first patrols did not have cars or two-way radio communication, but they started off always evolving policing and law enforcement organizations. In our current time the government has a direct relationship with law enforcement which affects policing practices. Federal, State, and local governments all play a role in policing practice. Although the law enforcement industry is ever-changing, sometimes it is important to understand where it came from and where it is going. Sir Robert Peel…
When I joined the police department, I knew I wanted to be a part of something great. I wanted to leave a legacy and make an impression on others. I was the first in my family to choose a career in law enforcement, so initially, I was unaware of the challenges this career field came with. My mom was a teacher, and my dad worked in the printing business. Both were successful in their chosen fields, but they were blind to the demands required for a fulfilling career in law enforcement. To be successful, I would need to be observant of those around me who had found success. I would need to mirror their ways and incorporate their habits into my own. I would need to learn from their failures. Most importantly, I would need to learn what made them…
My next steps to figure out if this would be a career that fits me is to take some classes offered by the University of Iowa next semester. I’ve done some research on some of the classes that they offer, and they offer a fair number of corrections classes for their criminal justice major. Also, they offer a wide array of different internships that I could utilize. They have some that deal with corrections, and others that deal with social services. So maybe I could try one of each, I could get some important experience. If I utilize all the classes, and internships opportunities at the University of Iowa, then I should start getting a good idea of what direction I want to go in. Also during that time, I should be able to meet a lot of new people that are familiar with the job, and maybe get some new references or connections as well. I liked this essay, because it made me look deeper into this job than what I’ve previously done. I’ve always thought that this could be an interesting job to have, but I never took the time to research…
* Police officers work in partnership with the communities they serve to maintain law and order, protect members of the public and their property, prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime and improve the quality of life for all citizens. They use a wide range of technology to protect individuals, identify the perpetrators of crime and ensure successful prosecutions against those who break the law. Police officers work closely with members of the criminal justice system, social workers, schools, local businesses, health trusts, housing authorities, town planners and community groups to provide advice, education and assistance to those who wish to reduce crime or have been affected by crime. I chose to research this job because I like to help people and the best way I can imagine doing this is becoming a cop.…
