But is money really a factor of such great importance as society and especially the media want us to believe?

Money is of major importance in today’s society. If you have an abundance of it, it could vault you into a life of friends, leisure, and fame. Contrarily, a lacking of it could leave you with absolutely nothing but shambles. Indeed, that is the point William Hazlitt attempts to make in “on the want of money.” By using appeal to prosperity, contrasting of ideas, and the idea of ethos, Hazlitt effectively persuades the reader that money is needed to achieve their desired goals.…

Americans revolve around money. They cannot live without it. In order to survive and/or live a good life one needs money. In the United States wealth classifies people. If one is rich, one is high class, if one has nothing, one is considered lower class. Why does money define the people? I agree with Lewis Lapham's view of " the American faith in money" because everything he states is factual, and I myself have experienced it.…

Money is power, which people want for themselves. The desire for money is a never ending trip and most individuals will do anything for this control. When people come in to some money, they feel superior, more powerful and above the rest of the other people that have less .they start hanging in crowds with the same level of income, so they feel better. I had a friend who once talk all the time, play together and hangout. When she got older, her family came in to money big time. Now she doesn’t talk to me, and never does anything with me. A…

Morrie loves a great amount of people and he appreciates money but he doesn’t make it his priority. He thinks that loving people is much more important than loving or haning money. Morrie shows this by saying, “Money is not a substitute for tenderness and power is not a substitute for tenderness. I can tell you… neither money nor power will give you the feeling you’re looking for…” (Albom 152). Every person needs tenderness and love everyone does not need money or power. I Believe that one does not need the biggest, shiniest things that everyone else has. But, I do believe that it is important to appreciate having loving people in one's life. Morrie’s lesson on money connects to my life because I understand that money and objects are not as important as love. I appreciate all the people I have in my life that share love with…

In Michael Norton’s Tedx talk “ Money Can Buy You Happiness”, Norton suggests that money cam make us happy if we spend it on others. He explores that money often makes us feel very selfish and we do things only for ourself. Thus, happiness is not determinded by how much one earns or how much one spends on himself, but how he spends money on others, no matter how much or how it is spent : “ People who spent money on other people got happier; nothing happened to people who spent money on themselves”- Norton said.…

    Money empathy Gap

“The Money- Empathy Gap” examines several physiological and sociological studies on the correlations between money and interactions with others. The piece observes that the more money a person has, the more independent, less empathetic, and less connected with others they become. The article raises interesting points about economic background and identity, and provokes questions about socioeconomics, empathy, service, class, relationships, assumptions we make about others, and humanity. It’s the love of money that is the root of all evil. Lisa Millers studies say that a high percentage of those with money think those without the same amount of money should be kept on the bottom rung of society and unfortunately those are the ones who have power. This indicates that wealth erodes empathy with others and the correlation between money and insensitivity complete itself. Given that poverty offers fewer resources, greater exposure to insecurity, and less power, you would expect lower social class individuals to prioritize egotism over the wellbeing of others. People in poverty are also more capable to show empathy towards the feeling of others as a means of adapting to their more harsh environments, whereas the wealthy hoard their money because they are completely consumed by status and being above the rest. This “eat my dust” mentality goes along with Piff’s experiments regarding driving etiquette. People with more money seem to be very entitled to their cars and their boastful driving habits seems to be the message. We’ve become a nation following the philosophy that there is no such thing as community. Selfishness has become a platform for the upper class, which results in less compassion for others. Wealthy do not have to sorry about how they treat others because their wealth ensures all their desires are met. They believe that wealth buys ego. This article could also be about the addiction to money. As with all addicts the more a person is addicted the more they…

Marketers want us to believe that living a selfish life, involving nothing but the pursuit of money and fame will bring success and happiness. Sadly, this is not true. Money is comparable to the often-mentioned new toy, fun while it is brand new and fresh, it’s terribly boring and unexciting after a few hours of play. Money can buy us conveniences and comforts. One needs much more than superficial luxuries to live a successful, well balanced life. Money does make life easier but it does not necessarily make it better. For example, money cannot make one knowledgeable or wise that only comes with hard work and committed study. And money cannot help one forge a long term relationship with a husband that only comes through love, commitment, and sacrifice. All the money in the world cannot teach respect or courtesy that comes with a good upbringing and a strong concern for the feelings of others. Can money give the gift of patience, leadership, appreciation, courage, friendship…
