In doing this, the people begin to believe in illusory ideas of immortal powers. People ultimately begin to perceive humans and human creations as superior and godly. Throughout The Count of Monte Cristo, Dumas uses allusions and specific vocabulary to portray The Count as a god -like figure and also shows The Count’s character transform as he seeks revenge and payback on figures from his past.…

People have different views of what mercy truly is. One of the most popular definitions is that mercy is compassion or kindness. Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson gives us a different but deeper understanding of what the word “mercy” honestly means, however, his experience changed his meaning of it forever. Reading this book also opened my eyes to what the real definition is; Not the one that is commonly known. Stevenson changed my definitions, used key points, and influenced my desire to seek out justice.…

    The Jungle Essay

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair is a truly astonishing piece of literature. It's no doubt that this book is certainly the most eye-opening from all of Sinclair's works, simply because of the enormous impact it had on the meatpacking industry. Sinclair mainly focused on his point of how meat was very poorly packaged and prepared in factories, versus stating the overall importance of living a socialistic, collective society. The book is set in the early 1900s in Chicago. Many people from various countries in Europe had heard from other people that America was a great place to start a new life, that it was easy to find work and get rich fast. The protagonist of this book, Jurgis, is overly jubilant from hearing this information and decides to move over to America with his family to find work and get significantly wealthy. When he comes to America, he is purely ecstatic with his new work conditions, even though they're extremely poor. He refuses to join a union because he believes he's making a decent living for his family, but he is later proven wrong.…

We’re on a mission to look for the places that were named after the characters of Rizal in his novels Noli Me tangere and El Filibusterismo. My groupmates and I arrived at PUP before 9am; we rode PNR to get to our starting point which is Laong Laan station. We are really excited for this fun-filled day. We are very happy when we saw the street named ‘Basilio’, we had different poses for the first set of pictures that we took there. Luckily we also found the next three streets, ‘Sisa, Ibarra and Crisostomo’ simultaneously. We took another set of pictures and then go to the next location which is ‘Tacio’, unfortunately we got lost and so we asked some bystanders there and we used the map we printed, then we were able to found ‘Tacio, Macaraig and Padre Florentino’. Then we walked again and asked for other streets and they suggested ‘Josefiina’ and so we also took pictures there. When we were about to get to our next station, we caught up with our other classmates, the BBS group and held a picture taking moment, then parted ways. It is hot already and ‘Maria Clara st. is far from our current location, so we decided to ride a tricycle. When we were able to found ‘Maria Clara st.’, we had our refreshments first and ate chips to satisfy our hunger. Then we walked again to our next destination which is ‘Simoun st.’ and walked again to ‘Elias st.’. Since SM San Lazaro is near, we decided to go there and have our lunch as well. We stayed there for awhile then agreed to go home. Even though it’s very hot, exhausting and tiring, we’re very happy because we enjoyed our last bonding before year 2012 ends and we consider it as one of our unforgettable memory. Mission Accomplished!…
