Mortinson Stood Chapter Summaries
Chapter one and two summary : 7-16
On September 2, 1993, in Pakistan’s Karakoram Range. While the protagonist Mortenson was making his way through rough terrain. He failed in an attempt to climb K2,where the world’s second highest mountain. he was following Scott Darsney, but Mortenson cannot see him any more . The two couldn’t reach the summit of K2 ,they rescue of fellow climber Etienne Mortenson spent three days. They had already used a great deal of energy carrying the supplies. As he the tallest and strongest member of the expedition, and he is exhausted physically and mentally after the rescue. He has lost thirty pounds and has little in the way of supplies for the descent.
Mortenson prepares to spend the freezing night , with a light blanket, he reflects on his life and he recalls the reasons for his K2 attempt. He grew up in Tanzania and he is trained as a nurse, that why he was in the U.S. Army. He thinks about his sister Christa, who died suddenly the year before , during an epileptic seizure .She became developmentally disabled after suffering from meningitis. Mortenson as a brother he helped his sister become independent and he enjoyed taking her on trips with him . He hoped to honor her memory as brother by leaving her beautiful necklace at the top of
