To enhance student learning, a teacher needs to create an environment of trust, sensitivity, and mutual respect for everyone. In order to establish a positive relationship with trust, an educator needs to demonstrate that he/she truly cares and respects each student by offering praise, being approachable, listen to students’ needs, and communicate well with students and parents. Once the relationship and safe environment have been achieved, students are more receptive to learning, which causes a chain of events to occur. Students are then able to concentrate better and are able to understand the material better, which means student learning is enhanced. From the questionnaires and interviews I have conducted, I have found that there are many important qualities of an effective educator. The first teacher I interviewed, Mr. Richards thought control of the class was the most important quality, whereas the second teacher I interviewed thought control of the class wasn’t all that important but good knowledge and patience were most important. This shows that the subject you are teaching can have an impact on how effective your teaching skills are. For e.g. Mrs. Dean is an English teacher and she believes good knowledge and patience are important when teaching a class, and Mr. Richards is a Mathematics teacher and he believes that control of the class is a very important skill to have when teaching.…

In this essay I want to talk about ten of the qualities that make a good teacher. My method is absolutely unscientific. Readers who want to know what exerts say about good teaching should stop reading right now and open to a different page of Inspiring Teaching. Readers who want to know what Pete has noticed about good teaching are welcome to read on. My evidence is personal, memorial, observational, and narrow. I have known teachers in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Texas, England, and China. Like Henry David Thoreau, I refuse to apologize for writing so much about myself. There is, simply, no one else I know as well. My hope is that my readers will be inspired to think far less about what I have noticed makes a good teacher than about what they themselves have noticed.…

We can divide the countless qualities we expect in a "good" teacher into two main categories: professional skills related to his subjects and to his job as teacher, and personal qualities as a man. These two types of qualities are not separated; together, they combine a unit called "a good teacher". A teacher with many personal qualities and no professional qualifications is not a teacher. Old handed teachers are not "good" teachers unless they have some specific characteristics that we always look for. Actually, no one can be comfortable when talking with a teacher who is bad-tempered all the time, for example.…
