The most memorable moment during my junior year was when I finally made the decision to apply for the military. I did not suddenly think about applying, in fact, it took me about a couple of months to go online on the United States Navy Reserve Officers' Training Corps website to click “Apply”. After reading all of the information about joining and listening to many stories from friends and veterans, I was passionate to commit myself to the program. Aside from my excitement, some of my friends and family were not too happy about it. Some of my friends hugged me tightly and cried for about an hour, a couple of them tried to persuade me not to join by giving me lectures about wars, and a few just said “no”
angrily and walked off. I was not sure what to do from those reactions because I thought everyone would be happy about it, but I guess not. My family also took in the information badly; both of my brothers asked why I wanted to join and would not leave me alone until I gave a reasonable answer even though I have explained to them why I wanted to join. And my parents, with their nationalistic ideas, gave me look a look before saying “no” and ending the conversation from there. It was stressful for me afterwards since I was not expecting being shut down from my family but I ignored what others thought about it and chose to apply for it anyways. As of right now, I am almost done with my application and working with my recruiter to complete it.
