Mother Teresa was a woman of power, leadership, and compassion. Her great deeds in serving the poor has won her many awards, such as the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize in the year of 1979 (World Book). Mother Teresa changed the lives of many, which includes the rich, poor, parentless, living, and dying. Mother Teresa had a vision to serve the poor, a strong work ethic as a teacher, collaboration skills for working with the Missionaries of Charity, and a strong commitment to gospel values. Mother Teresa received a second call from God at a train station when she saw a poor, frail man begging for water and saying, "I thirst". She believed that Jesus was talking to her through the man and at that moment, she knew that she was called to serve. She wanted to start a new order for nuns who want to leave their convents and serve outside of those convent walls. It was hard for Teresa to be granted permission from local church authorities as well as from the archbishop to the Vatican to start a new congregation. This process took many long months, and was finally granted her wish (Spink). Another instance which shows Mother Teresa's collaboration skills is when she opened up a hospital on a busy street in Calcutta. She saw a dying woman on the street, which angered her because she thought that people should not have to die in the streets like animals, so she wanted to make a home for the dying that needed caring and shelter. Since the small building that the government officials gave to her was dirty, she brought in other sisters to work with her. "Together they scrubbed the walls and floors of the building." (Childcraft) Other sisters left their convents to join Mother Teresa in serving those in need. With her influence, others nuns were convinced that they were needed outside of the walls of their convents. Together, they worked together to help the poor die in peace rather than in the streets.
