The Motion Picture Association of America is the organization that stamps each motion picture with a specified rating indicating which audience a particular film is appropriate for. The specific ratings are; G (General Audience), PG (Parental Guidance Advised), PG-13 (Parental Guidance Advised No Children under 13), and R (Restricted). In addition there are several more ratings such as NC-17 (No Children under 17), though these are less known. People often describe certain movies as improperly rated. Sometimes a movie is rated Pg-13 for harsh language and violence, but the rating fails to mention that the film also contains nudity or sexuality. Other times the movie is rated R for language yet contains only one or two mild profanities. In such cases one must question the consistency of the rating panel. If such lapses of efficiency are common, one should seriously consider rethinking their personal movie collection.…

That way only audiences with developed minds can view the film, and the filmmaker will get the opportunity to express his or herself freely. But the impracticality of this solution is mimicked by the adage “locks are for honest thieves.” If a young person wants to see a violent film, he or she will find a way to watch it: whether it be through the usage of a fake ID, an illegal movie site, or a pirated DVD. In fact, it is likely that an age restriction would entice adolescents to watch the film even more, simply because it is not allowed. This scenario bears similarity to activities such as drinking alcohol. Because the legal age for drinking is 21 years, teenagers find it exciting to consume alcohol at a young age because they know it is something against the law. In European countries such as France and Belgium, children are allowed to drink at as young as sixteen years old, and statistically there are fewer incidents of teenage alcoholism as compared to the United States.…

According to wildcatbiology.edu.orgs, the author is strongly convinced by the fact that individuals are permitted to watch any movie of choice. “ If they can’t handle it in the end, then it’s no one’s fault but their own, by the time someone is 13 they should probably be well aware of their personal limits.” (Should Teens over 13). With numerous individuals across the world breaking the law and watching rated R movies, it's ultimately their life to determine what's right and not. If they feel that they are mature enough to watch a rated R movie, then they would, otherwise they wouldn’t. The author as well states that age does not determine the maturity of an individual. “Age is a very unreliable estimate of maturity, some people can be mentally mature at 9 or some people can be 90 and still young at heart. So what makes people think that after you turn 17 you are automatically mature?” (Should Teens over 13). Theater management can’t discriminate based off of looks or age. Some people need more time to grow up respective to others. It's not the law’s choice to determine only people above 17 can watch rated R movies, but the individual's choice. Even though some of the world's population believes teenagers should not watch rated R movies, they should be able to watch as every individual develops maturity at a different age compared to their…
