Mountaineering Ireland is the representative body for walkers and climbers throughout Ireland. It is recognised as the National Governing body (NGB) for mountaineering, hill walking, rambling and climbing by Sport Ireland and Sport Northern Ireland. Mountaineering Ireland is governed by a board of directors which is chosen by the membership. They have a large team of staff based in many areas such as Irish Sport HQ, National Sports Campus, Blanchardstown in Dublin and at Tollymore Mountain Centre in County Down. There are a total of 14 staff currently working for Mountaineering Ireland working in all areas across Ireland. There are so many places throughout Ireland that are appropriate areas to engage in this, a hill walking spot is never too far away wherever you may be in the country. Appropriate clothing and footwear is essential when in Ireland as weather conditions can change so quickly and have such an effect on the safety factors when hill walking. the key to staying warm when up a mountain is staying dry so layers are very important that can be taken off is they become wet at any stage due to changing weather conditions. Mountaineering Scotland also promote users to protect Scotland's mountains and to protect access rights in these mountains. Mountaineering Scotland's funding comes from many areas such as membership subscriptions, non governmental grants and also investments from Sports Scotland. This funding goes towards supporting public initiatives and services in mountain safety, mountain weather forecasting, mountain training and the development and promotion of mountaineering activities (www.mountaineering.scot, 2017).
