Crisis struck Walkerton in late spring of 2000 when the small town of 5000 was struck by an outbreak of E. coli. People of the town were being sickened from their own water source. As time carried on seven people died. The problem that was on hand was a matter of ethics rivaled with Ontario drinking water quality standards. In examination of the problem it can be determined that the undermining source of the outbreak was the budget cut in the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MoE) because; the worker on site didn’t have proper training, he was not being checked on by MoE employees and he didn’t have enough budgeting to test the water frequently enough for government standards.…

More than a tragic story of sorrow, death and family turmoil, Harr's narrative tells the story of how a lawyer and grief stricken families pieced together the pieces of a very complex puzzle to determine the cause and effect that such water contamination had on their personal injury matters. By depicting the work that epidemiologists, geologists, medical experts, civil engineers and public health specialists did over the course of the case, Harr instrumentally lays out the multifaceted sides of Anderson v Cryovac.…

I had intended on going to the vigil Wednesday night (2/8) but much to my dismay, there was no vigil (or I missed it). So instead of attending a diversity event for this paper, I watched a documentary on Netflix called 13th. This film discusses the issue of racism in the United States criminal justice system; specifically relating to how the 13th amendment transformed the view of African Americans from slaves to criminals.…

After watching the extraordinary movie “Selma” i have nothing but positive feedback. This movie touched base on how hard and how awful segregation was in Selma, Alabama. The issue that was focused on was on how blacks weren't able to vote because of how limiting the system was. This is a true story, and it really opened my mind on the topic of segregation. It was also focused on MLK Jr. and the courageous movement he led. His movement consisted of non-violent protest and inspirational meetings amongst blacks all over the country.…
The movie A Civil Action is focused on describing and explaining what really goes on in a court of law. The case the movie deals with is a small firm going after a national corporation in order to get them to apologize for what they did to the city’s water. It is believed that the company would dump harmful waste such as trichloroethylene into the back of their site where the company was located into a small running river. However, the river was connected to the city’s water wells and caused harm to many children that drank the water. The way each lawsuit is handled can be related to a sociological perspective. The Marxist approach can best explain the process and outcome of the case in A Civil Action.…
A Protesters paradise? Hollywood might be the next big place to see a protest in action when turning on the news. While streets around the country are full of individuals who are objecting to current social situations, it appears that many protesters are heading to Hollywood for the chance to be heard. Lately, the cries from the sidewalks (and even on the streets) in Hollywood can be viewed as guests and visitors capture a moment in time.…
As much as I can say, it was interesting, as a member of one of the minorities that make up the population of the United States, to watch *** movie, Freedom Writers. In fact, this movie delivers a great message to those who take the risk to watch a controversial movie that criticizes our society and how we treat others, mainly because they (those we critice) look different that usn . In fact, this risk we take cannot be compared to the risks the people shown in this movie take.…
