I have been enjoying going to the movies for over 20 and have never stopped loving the experience. I even remember the name of my first movie “The Land Before Time.” It was about a baby dinosaur that had lost his mother and had to make a great journey to the Great Valley to find his grandparents. In the end he does find them, after a great adventure with friends. I have always love movies that have a happy ending and also a little adventure. Another story that I read that had a happy ending was an essay called “Going to the Movies” by Susan Allen Toth 1980. In this essay she writes about what type of experiences she has with four different friends when she goes to the movies with them. Also, another essay I have read recently is called “A Century of Cinema” 1995…

The key assumption is that the patrons would benefit from a switch to digital. I believe this assumption is inaccurate. The people that use the theatre are locals. I do not see the quality of the picture increasing being a big deal for them. They are just happy to come to a theatre that has such a unique experience and is close to the. They would give up quality of the picture for quality of the experience.…

Owners of movie theaters thought up a variety of strategies to keep attendance booming throughout this decade of depression. These owners created a hierarchy of theaters, in which the first theater would run the movie first, then the film would be bumped to the second theater, when a newer film was released, and then bounced to the third theater. This strategy left films circulate throughout the theaters for a longer period of time before it was not shown anymore. Another scheme they came up with was to start "Bank Nights," these "'Bank Nights' occurred on those days of the week when attendance was usually low, with tickets becoming part of a lottery for prize money" (“Escapism and Leisure Time 1929-1941”). Other theaters proposed a "Dish night,"…

Although, if people keep sneaking food into theaters, we may not hear those familiar sounds anymore. We might just lose movie theaters as we know it! In the movie theatre you should be able to watch a movie without any distractions, but there are always those rude moviegoers that ruin the movie for everybody else. Rude moviegoers can be separated into three groups. The first group is consisted of people who are constant talkers. These people do not belong at the movie theatre. All they do is conversate with others and hardly even watch the movie or yell at the screen thinking that they can be heard. Constant talkers should have to wait until the movie comes out on dvd where they can buy it and watch it at home and yell and talk all they want at their own tvs without disturbing the other people around them. Second group of rude people in movie theatres is made up of the noisy eaters. All…

    The Hazards of Moviegoing

Once you have made it to the box office and gotten your tickets, you are confronted with the problems of the theater itself. If you are in one of the run-down older theaters, you must adjust to the musty smell of seldom-cleaned carpets. Escaped springs lurk in the faded plush or cracked leather seats, and half the seats you sit in seem loose or tilted so that you sit at a strange angle. The newer twin and quad theaters offer their own problems. Sitting in an area only one-quarter the size of a regular theater, moviegoers often have to put up with the sound of the movie next door. This is especially jarring when the other movie involves racing cars or a karate war and you are trying to enjoy a quiet love story. And whether the theater is old or new, it will have floors that seem to be coated with rubber cement. By the end of a movie, shoes almost have to be pried off the floor because they have become sealed to a deadly compound of spilled soda, hardening bubble gum, and crushed Ju-Jubes.…
