Mozi's Beliefs
Mohism was a religion or philosophy created by Mozi in the fifth century. Mozi was a Chinese man who disagreed with some of the philosophies of Confucianism. He did not like that Confucian felt that it was important to celebrate rites and ceremonies and thought it was a waste of resources from the government. He taught his followers to submit to heaven or what was called Shangdi, “the Lord on High.” Mozi taught the Mohists to love everyone equally, family, friends, strangers, it didn’t matter who the person was.
Mozi believed that the only law was the law that originated from heaven, because heaven is perfect, but man is not. “The law of heaven is Love” () This was a very important part of his religion. He believed that a ruler should love

It was believed that a country would easily be defeated by their enemy’s after these seven disasters.
The Mohists believed in ten beliefs. The ten beliefs were put together in five pairs. They were:
1. “Promoting the Worthy” and “Identifying Upward”- This meant the government should promote and encourage people to be moral and praise the people that are and punish the people who fail.
2. “Inclusive Care” and “Condemning Aggression”- Caring about each person regardless of who they are and shunning all war because it is selfish and does not benefit the whole society.
3.” Moderation in Use” and “Moderation in Burial”- All unnecessary lavish funerals or long mourning should be done away with, because it does not benefit the people.
4. “Heaven’s Intent and “Understanding Ghosts”- Heaven is always to be respected. Anyone who disrespects heaven will be punished. They believed that ghosts or spirits would reward the respectful people and punish the wicked.
5. “Condemning Music” and “Condemning Fatalism”- They reject all extravagant music and other things, because it was a waste of goods that could be used on everyone. Fatalism was frowned upon, because it teaches that everyone’s life is already known so why put any effort into
