Mr Jones Monologue
Mrs. Jones was filled with excitement that she started to become impatient while signing all of the papers.
6 months earlier… The woman said, “Um-hum! You thought I was going to say, but i didn’t snatch people’s pocket books Well, I wasn’t going to say that.” Pause. Silence. “I have done things, too, which I would not tell you, son-neither tell God, if he didn’t already know. So you set down while I fix us something to eat. You might run that comb through your hair so you will look presentable.”
She heated some lima beans and ham she had in the icebox, made the cocoa, and set the table. The woman did not ask the boy anything about where he lived, or his folks, or anything else that would embarrass him. Instead, as they ate, she told him about her job in a hotel

This comforting smell made him wander into the kitchen to see what Mrs.Jones was cooking.
“What’s a cookin’?” Roger asked.
Mrs.Jones looked at him and said, “My specialty bacon, gravy and biscuits.”
Roger had not had this much food in ages. He had been feeding off the money he stole from others to buy food, that money didn’t get him very much.
Mrs.Jones kindly asked Roger, “Will you set the table please.”
Roger replied, “Yes’m.” Roger didn’t even know how to set a table. Mrs.Jones gave him two placemats, two forks, two spoons, two knives, and two cups. He figured Mrs.Jones would sit at the head of the table and he could sit right next to her. Roger placed the placemats down and the rest of the the cups and utensils down.
Mrs.Jones strolled over with plates of food and a large glass of orange juice. She placed the food on the table. She then sat down and told Roger, “Dig on in, you don’t want your food to get cold.”
Roger did as she told. As she she finished swallowing her food, she asked Roger something that could change his life forever, "You ought to be my son. I would teach you right from wrong, so would you like to live
