Investigating the effect of salt concentration in beetroot at different temperature

Abstract The aim of the experiment is to find out the effect of salt concentration in a beetroot at a different temperature. The experiment will help to identify the effect of salt concentration in beetroot at different temperatures. After this, equipment called colorimeter will be used to take a reading for absorbency. The readings for the absorbency will be repeated three times in order to find the mean of each sample and to also find out the standard deviation of each set of data which will be recorded in a table format. The temperature rising will cause damage to the cell membrane due to the temperature rising above the membranes temperature. The mean absorbency will be calculated from five different temperatures starting from 0, 40, 60, 80 and 100 degree. From this experiment, the mean absorbance for all the five temperatures should be between the ranges of 0.00 to 0.70 as this result was shown from the same experiment carried from other colleges and on the internet. For 0 degree temperatures and 40 degree temperature, the mean absorbance for 0 degree should be should be 0.00 while the absorbance for 40 degree should under 0.20, it shouldn’t exceed more than 0.20 as the same experiment carried out by other colleges, school and on the internet shows this pattern. From 40 degree temperature, the mean absorbance value can be any value between 0.20 to 0.60 but there should be a pattern that the absorbance mean is increasing as the temperature goes higher and it shouldn’t exceed more than 0.70 degree. Getting a low standard deviation shows that the values are well accurate while getting high standard deviations shows that the experiment are not well accurate. In this experiment, the standard deviation value should have a really low value from 0.00 to 1.00 as this was shown in some experiment which is this same as this, carried out in different schools, colleges and on some

As indicated by the figure, the high concentration correlated to having the highest amount of absorbance (1.006 at 300 seconds). This was followed by the medium-high concentration (0.555) and medium concentration (0.540). It can be noted that the medium concentration started off with a higher absorbance than the medium-high concentration, but the medium-high concentration had a faster increase of absorbance over time. Thus, surpassing the absorbance of the medium concentration from 270 and 300 seconds. The low concentration had the lowest amount of absorbance, with a final absorbance rate of 0.204, and did not substantially increase over the period of…

You are to prepare five copper sulfate solutions of known concentration (standard solutions). Each is transferred to a small, rectangular cuvette that is placed into the Colorimeter. The amount of light that penetrates the solution and strikes the photocell is used to compute the absorbance of each solution. When a graph of absorbance vs. concentration is plotted for the standard solutions, a direct relationship should result, as shown. The direct relationship between absorbance and concentration for a solution is known as Beer’s law.…

All work for the LLS calculation must be shown in a separate table in the Sample Calculations section. Concentration of chloride in the 250 mL celery salt mixture in moles per liter and in ppm chloride. Calculation of the wt% NaCl in the solid celery salt. IV. Data and Results: The report must include two graphs (a calibration plot and a standard additions plot) and the data tables for each. (Note: These are not the same as the LLS tables, which belong in the Sample Calculations section.) Use graph paper ruled 10 sq/cm. Note that section C-2 on page 69 of the laboratory manual gives instructions for preparation of a table to aid in data analysis. As usual, in the report other necessary raw data (e.g., concentration of KCl, unknown weight and volume, temperature, etc.) and final calculated values (e.g., equation of the line, [Cl-] in the unknown, etc.) should appear in the table. The equation for each line should appear on the corresponding graph, and the limit of detection (in concentration units, not log [Cl-]) should be indicated on the calibration plot. Note that the number of significant figures in the concentration (number of decimal places in log C) changes as C increases. To make the graphing uniform use three places in all log C axis labels. Conclusion: State your results: wt% Cl- in the solid unknown; wt% NaCl in the celery salt. Then discuss any problems and notable sources of error pertinent to your results. Also, give a complete…

The first plate was labeled with our initials, lab section, one half was called the exposed and the other half was called foiled protected. The second had four sections labeled- Coconut oil, SPF 50, Sunglass and Control. Next, 0.15 ml of yeast was pipetted onto the two separate agars. Then the disposable L-rod spreader was used to spread the liquid so that the agar surfaces are evenly covered. Then the plates were placed in a dark place for 20 minutes. After the 20 minutes the first plate with the exposed half and foiled half, the the foiled half of plate was covered with dark aluminum foil. The second plate had coconut oil, SPF 50, and sunglass lens applied to its designated area on top on the led of the plate, not directly on the yeast. One section was free of any condition on the second plate as an control to compare the other conditions with. Then, both plates were exposed to the UVB source for 1 minute and 50 seconds. Then they were removed and placed upside down in 30 degrees Celsius incubator for 2 days then refrigerated. After this period the colonies should were counted. the survival rate for the first plate with the exposed half and foiled half was calculated. Also find survival rate of each condition( SPF 50, sunglass, and coconut oil) using the control section as the comparing factor was…

The reason for this experiment was to figure out which solution would prevent the apples from browning the most and to determine if pH has an effect on the prevention of browning of the apples. My hypothesis stated that white grape juice would prevent the apples from browning the most. This hypothesis was refuted, lemon was actually the solution that prevented the browning of the apples the most. Before the apples were dipped in the solution, the average rating of the apples on a scale of 0 to 5, 0 being the least brown and 5 being the most, solution A, apple juice, was 0. The average rating on the apples going into solution B, lemon juice, was 0.…

As seen from ‘Table 2’ and ‘Figure 1’, as temperature increases so does the level of absorbance. This is with the exception of the beetroot being kept at 77°C where the absorbance was 0.019 Å lower than the 55°C value of 2.510 Å. Deep freeze, 3°C and 25°C all produced solutions with a low absorbance. There was a dramatic increase at 45°C and then again even more so at 55°C.…

For this particular lab, one might have a researchable question as so: "Does ethanol effect cell membranes?" To this question many hypotheses were formed. For this personal experiment, if the concentration of ethanol is increased, then it is expected that the cell membrane of the beet root will be damaged, resulting in the release of more betacyanin. To test this, a beet root was cut into identical portions to then be soaked in various ethanol solutions for five minutes each. After the incubation, the absorbance was then measured through the use of a spectrophotometer. Three different replicates were performed. Using the absorbance, the concentration of betacyanin was then calculated through the use on Lambert-Beers Law.…

The table 1 shows the original average measurements of the permeability of the Beta Vulgaris cells, however, the data was altered due the outliers in the data. On the raw data, there were some negative numbers due to some experimental errors. For this experiment, there should not be any negatives because it results can either the concentration effected the permeability or it did not at all. This indicates that it can shows 0.000 as the lowest. Due to this, the raw table was altered and changed the negative data to 0.000 as it was closest to it. Because of this the average table was alternated to keep it consist and as accurate as possible.…

The hypothesis predicted that the higher the temperature the darker the beetroot substance and the lower the temperature the least colour intensity represented. However this was not the case in the beetroot cell membrane experiment. A star scale was used to show the colour intensity (Key: 1/5 stars lightest colour intensity; 5/5 stars darkest colour intensity). Results showed that the highest temperature which in this case was 80⁰C, was unfortunately scaled at 1/5 stars the lightest colour intensity, a result which was definitely not expected. When analysing the rest of the results, more unexpected results appeared, showing no relation to the hypothesis prediction. Temperatures 50⁰C and 30⁰C was also scaled at 1/5 stars in colour intensity. Temperatures -5⁰C and 5⁰C were both stored in cold temperatures, -5⁰C was stored in a freezer while the 5⁰C was stored in the refrigerator. Based on the hypothesis prediction, temperature -5⁰C contained a colder temperature the 5⁰C, therefore the -5⁰C had to result in a more lighter colour intensity, as a result the 5⁰C would need to contain a darker colour intensity than -5⁰C because the 5⁰C was stored in a refrigerator, containing a temperature that is not extremely cold such as the freezer.…
