Mr. Mcconaughey's Speech Analysis
A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through Facebook when I came across a link that led me to Matthew McConnaughey’s acceptance speech for winning the Oscar for best actor in 2014. It was a fairly short speech, only lasting about two minutes and 30 seconds, but it left a lasting impression on me. There are many speeches that I’ve heard that have inspired me, but this particular speech struck a chord with me.
After watching the speech, I felt motivated. I felt like Mr. McConaughey captured my motivations in life perfectly. He first thanked God for gracing his life with opportunities and blessings, and named Him as someone he looks up to. The motivated sequence pattern is a, “Speech design that motivates people to act.” Like I said in the previous paragraph, after listening to this speech, I felt motivated to not only make myself proud, but make my family proud in everything that I do as well. While Mr. McConaughey spoke about the three things to his account that he needs each day, I was able to hear the sincerity and meaningfulness behind the words he was saying, and they motivated me. Mr. McConaughey was able to get my full and undivided attention because number one, it’s Matthew McConaughey and he is really good looking. And number two, he started his speech off with, “There are three things to my account that I need, each day.” When he said that, I was intrigued because he’s famous and I think he lives a relatively private life, and I wanted to know what he places importance on. From that sentence on, I wanted to hear what he had to say. He concluded the speech by addressing his audience saying, whatever it is that motivates you, amen to that and, “Just keep living.” I think this speech was beautifully and eloquently said, and for me it touched on all the points that keep me striving and working toward my own goals in life. It made me feel empowered and it reminded me of the reasons I work so
