16 February 2015 Never Forgotten You're sleeping with your head against the plane’s window, your heart set on being home this time three hours from now. There are another one hundred and fifty people sitting around you doing the same thing. All of your worlds are so different, your thoughts are all jumbled and as far as you know your lives have no connection to each other whatsoever. The plane starts to shake and stirs you from your seat, knocking your headphones out of your ears. You hear a scream and you’re pretty sure it came from the pilot’s cabin. There’s screaming and shouting and one thing leads to another. Soon you discover that the plane has been hijacked by a group of Middle Eastern people. …show more content…
The plane crashes into something and your life flashes before you. You see your brothers and sisters, that one time you and your friends snuck out past curfew in high school and your first college party. You see your kids and spouse at home and wonder what they will do without you. Now you suddenly have something in common with all of the people around you. You now have a connection to each other like no other, you and those one hundred and fifty people just became victims of the 9/11 terrorists attacks on the United States of America. What did you and all those innocent people on this plane do to deserve such a horrific death? He wanted to reassure the American people that everything was under control even under the extreme conditions. He also wanted to express condolence and provide comfort to the whole nation. President Bush said, “These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our Nation into chaos and retreat, but they have failed. Our country is strong,” (Address to the Nation on the Terrorist Attacks). This made the American people believe that he knew what he was going to do in response and that the country had not fallen apart. He also stated, “America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining,” (Address to the Nation on the Terrorist Attacks). This statement was one of the strongest in the speech.
