Answer: As activities go in Mr. Phillips Furniture store I would implement a vison or mission statement to adhere by, so that there is a proper goal set in place for employees and other organizations to see that there is a future for growth. The goal of the mission statement will help establish a future plan where the company can aim to be at. Mr. Philips has been growing his company from a little furniture off of lakeside to now multiple growing locations. As mission statement is now in place we can now focus on the task at and that will help Mr. Phillips furniture store. relations. This will give the responsibility of the HR department to understand and ensure that Work environment and wages and safety is set in place with accordance to standards mandated by the state laws.
Mr. Phillips knows that his furniture store is growing and expanding, what needs to happen next is to establish organizational structure where everyone knows their roles and can be accountable for what and whom there responsible for what they do. This will help to keep and ensure that efficient and effective management is set in place. I would also ask Mr. Phillips to aim his focus on creating a HR manual so to speak, that sets a HR policy. This would be more of a HR specialist task as having multiple locations will have different employees. So, having a HR specialist in each location will keep employees knowing what the compensation policy is, and leave criteria, attendance system, and staffing. This then relates to having a job description for employees. A job description is needed now because the retail furniture is vastly growing. This will let employees know what is expected of him/her and the responsibilities at hand. As now we have Job descriptions it is now a must to have Training for our employees. With Mr. Phillips having many locations we should focus on having a set location that focuses on different jobs within the company. Training such
as customer care, Management and manufacturing are all things that should be focused on.
Question #2: What would be your first action, and why?
Answer: As the HR Manager, my first plan of action is to establish an organizational structure that lets employee know the structure of command. This is necessary because as various locations are growing we want to let our employees know who they should report to or for whom. For the sake of the company it helps to establish performance goals/ targets this will help to aim for a sales target which will help Mr. Phillips as to where his company is going. Not only that but it helps employees know where they need to be. As the HR manager, I would create a HR manual as this helps the HR department know the policies that are set. The focus at action after establishing the policies and setting laws and regulations is getting employees to perform at their highest level. With as much success as Mr. Phillips has had so far it is important to make sure the employees know what is expected but, also what they are expected in pay and compensation and safety. Over all Mr. Phillips has a great foundation of how his business is being upheld. But with a vast growth in his company it is necessary to establish a few actions that need urgency. Some of those being that there needs to be a mission statement to stir the company to a goal in the future. Next is to get standards set with the state and law for the employee and companies sake. Next is to set up a structural organizational system that lets employees know who to report to. Which will help in management as things will be in a more effective and efficient order.
