Deborah Barklay is the principal of Hard Rock High School. She was reflecting on what a good decision she made in accepting this position. Her extensive experience and leadership skills prepared her well for this job in the Leading Edge Independent School District (ISD). The district has experienced rapid growth and has implemented a technological network. Hard Rock High School reflected some of the district’s changing…
Later on, she also became the principal of Mattapan and Hyde Park schools. She also acted as the assistant director of the school’s teacher placement division. Wood was recognized by the National Conference of Christians and Jews for her service and was presented with the Frederick Douglass Achievement Award.…
I am writing concerning Tripp Moore, whom I have come to know throughout my years as the Flomaton High School “Hurricane” Marching Band drumline instructor. As Tripp’s instructor, it was a pleasure to get to know him. Tripp has been a great student of mine and it has been my pleasure of being able to teach him. He has some great qualities of a human being and qualities that you would love to see in a leader. Tripp’s hard work and his dedication to music helped him as he joined band and made awesome strides to be on the best percussionist. Tripp also dedicates his time to being a part of the Flomaton High School Jazz Band, and being the drummer at his church First Baptist Church of Flomaton, Alabama. Tripp will one day be a great leader in his…

Like the attributes of Dr. Warren Warwick, director of Fairview University Children’s Hospital, an exemplary teacher has a strong commitment to their work and students. This level of professionalism extends outside of the classroom, devoting personal time and energy…
Thank you for everything, Rebecca Hopkins Razavi. I think I speak for the entire cohort when I say it's been an honor to be with you this school year. You've helped us all greatly and we are forever grateful. I can truly see the growth of every single individual in this amazing group. We are all appreciative of how you helped us get to this point. We are extremely blessed to have opportunities/support systems like Hillman, and we should pay it forward at UMD. As Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story would say,"To infinity...and…
It is a pleasure to nominate Dave Giles for the "Most Outstanding Person" award. He is a former alumni of Carl Sandburg College. My first impression of Dave came in 2012 when he gave hands-down the best speech on the importance of education that I had ever heard. He truly enjoys spending his time helping the community's youth. He has also continued to live up to that impression of being a passionate man who is optimistic, supporting, and is as committed to children as he is to bettering our society.…

My name is Grace Arvesen and I am currently a sophomore at Marist High School. When I think of great teachers, although I’ve had many, one comes to mind right away. Her name is Colleen Biszewski and was my 7th and 8th grade math and science teacher at Queen of Martyrs School. Not only did Mrs. Biszewski prepare us academically, but she helped us practice good Christian values. In addition, she was accessible for all students, treating everyone with fairness.…
Ms. Gallow is a very dedicated teacher. She got as involved in her students’ lives as she could, She was the student council advisor, and the track coach. She always such concern and compassion for her students. She would always make time to listen to what you have to say. I am happy with this, as she is an experienced manager and, as well as helping me with the award, I am sure I can learn from her too.…
Mr. Gibson definitely proved today his veteran status, so If I am to be completely honest, I believe Mr. Gibson is a much better teacher than Mr. Cole currently is. There is no denying Mr. Cole’s ability and I stand by the fact that Mr. Cole’s award is well earned. However, Mr. Gibson has more experience than Mr. Cole, this is as clear as their age difference.…
You're one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. English and writing played a part, but the way you taught and related to kids on their level was pretty awesome to watch. I thought it was funny how you'd go off subject at a moment's notice and I remember you even bringing up two of my favorite subjects in class - Punk Rock and graffiti. I was especially impressed by your broad-mindedness and unrelenting support for the underdog.…
I also appreciated how she chose to do her assessment. This week in field, I was struggling to understand how I am going to conduct an assessment about social studies in kindergarten, without having them memorize terms or facts. The way Tina took antidotal records and then also evaluated them based on their narrative gave me an idea of how I can assess my students using authentic assessment instead of traditional assessment. It also helped me understand how to evaluate those assessments and how to look at the results and create mini-lessons from the assessment. I think Tina did an amazing job at allowing students to feel as if their…
