It should not be put into that category because today people just do not understand it. How is something funny to someone if they do not understand it? When a person tells a joke and it is difficult to figure out then the person has to explain. When this repeats people just get annoyed by the fact that they cannot comprehend. Shakespeare's writing is just out dated, and also quite uncommon in today's world. ". . . What fashion will you wear the garland of? About your neck, like a usurer's chain? or under your arm, like a lieutenant's scarf? You must wear it one way, for the prince hath got your Hero.” (Act II scene i) The average American reads at a 7th grade level. How are they supposed to understand the meaning of passages like these? Additionally, if there is something humorous in the play the average American audience is not going to able to catch it. Someone might say this would have been funny back then. Yes a comedy back then, but it is the 21 century now. Things change, the time did, so the genre should change as well. For this reason it is not a comedy, but also because it does not have funny
