The Cherokee are perhaps one of the most interesting of Native American Groups. Their life and culture are closely intertwined with early American settlers and the history of our own nation 's struggle for freedom. In the interest of promoting tolerance and peace, and with regard to the United States government 's handling of Native affairs, their story is one that is painful, stoic, and must not be forgotten.…

The lesson reviewed was “Sexism: From Identification to Activism,” a very proactive lesson that dug into the issue of sexism, and how the students lives where affected by the topic. The lesson begins by introducing a quote about sexism that goes over the forms in which it can be expressed. From there the lesson plan has the students begin to explore how sexism shapes language, the government, and behavior. The students are asked to share their beliefs on sexism and how it affects their lives via a handout provided by the teacher as well as classroom discussion. The teacher in this lesson plan needs to be prepared with examples to promote student discussion if there is a lack of participation. The lesson then goes into a different handout where the students are to discuss when they might choose to not speak out against sexism and when they could choose not to speak out. The lesson ends with what is needed to speak out and take action over sexism.…

By connecting children in different global regions we are now able to close the gaps between our cultures and societies. Introducing children to multicultural experiences will “encourage children’s curiosity.” (Hagiwara, 1998) Children are capable of learning new things with little difficulty, if becoming culturally diverse became part of their everyday habits by the time that they entered college they would already be well round individual with a vast knowledge of the global society.…

When I was in grade school, I don’t recall coming across to many books that weren’t traditionally in the curriculum. I mean everything I read in grade school was a solid, remarkable piece of literature but nothing I could ever relate too. Even though I grew up in a diverse time, I didn’t read multicultural literature in school. I read them on my own time. Multicultural literature should be integrated into the curriculum of today’s school system; I believe multicultural literature teaches children about the similarities they have with another culture as well as it being a way for children to relate to others. However finding good quality multicultural literature is maybe very hard to come by.…
