Nowadays, English became one of the most important thing that can decide whether someone can have a job or not. There are a lot of institutions that provide English Language Teaching service that can help people to learn English easily. Have you ever wonder when was the formal teaching of English in Indonesia started? It was started since the Dutch colonial era in 1900. Only the Dutch and some upper class Indonesians who have the opportunity to learn English. English Language Teaching at that time was consider as more successful era due to the conditions of small class, qualified teachers, and availability of teaching materials (Ena,2013).

From 1992 until 2013, I have studied four languages, they are Bahasa, Javanese, English and German language. And now I am in a process to deepen and hone my skills in the English language.
The first language that I mastered is Palembang language. I was born and raised in Lahat, a city of Palembang in South Sumatera. I think the difference between Palembang and Bahasa are not too different. For everyday language (market), only the style just a bit different from Indonesian, and some different words or terms, most of the letter “A” at the end of a word is replaced with the letter “O”. Recently, I found that Palembang language also has levels like the Javanese language that is a refined language commonly called "bebaso"."Bebaso", it is like “kromo inggil” in Javanese language. It was used when communicating with older people to be more polite. Unfortunately, at this time "bebaso" is on the verge of extinction. Now there are much people in Palembang cannot speak “bebaso”. So, it seems that “bebaso” will be gone soon.
Although I was born and raised in Sumatra, the second language that I know was Javanese language, because my grandfather and my father are Javanese. So, they uses the Javanese language when they speak. I could say that I am a passive Javanese language user, I just

If fellow companions happen to like the same video, it is a never ending advertising train. Kara Brown explains this dilemma in her article, “Here’s How Much Celebrities Make in the Instagram Product Placement Machine,” how celebrities like Scott Disick and the Kardashians are getting paid as much as $15,000-$25,000 off the bat while we’re stuck advertising for free. Companies want individuals to believe they are just simply roaming the internet freely without any sort of personal data being sold off to third party companies and make us feel as if we are part of something special, but in reality “It’s kind of a barter arrangement: Shadow Workers create valuable content for Facebook in exchange for free social recreation” (Lambert).…

Day by day the World becomes more interconnected, we talk to people from other countries in languages that usually are not our native tongue, multi linguists now outnumber mono linguists and around 25% of the world 's countries recognise two or languages as official (see Pearson). English has become the Lingua Franca of the world and native languages are starting to disappear. The fewer the number of speakers the quicker. One language that seems to have reversed the trend is the Garífuna language, indigenous to the Carribean coasts of Honduras, Guatemala and Belize. Unique in the sense that, unlike other native languages in the Carribean Area, it did not form a creole. In the following I will give a brief overview of the origins of the language, the structure, its current state and the reasons why it has been able to resist the phenomenon of language disappearance.…

What is Dual language? Dual language is a form of bilingual education that teaches students, as young as pre-k programs, literacy and content in their native speaking language. These programs typically start in kindergarten and continue for the next few years, many are now continuing into middle school and high school. The need for dual language programs in increasing as the years go by. The growth of so-called “dual language programs” has been swift over the last decade (Loeb, 1999) and it continues to rise after a decade past and decades to come. As a child, I have memories of the first day of school. I remember starting school and feeling very frightened when I didn’t comprehend what the teacher was explaining to me because she was speaking a different language. I grew up in a Spanish speaking home and attending school was where I first encountered the English language. As many other struggling students, I learned English the hard way. I learned English because I needed it in order to advance in school and “fit in” with the other kids. I am grateful for the implementation of the dual language program.…

A Language Barrier From my experience, bilingual education was a disadvantage during my childhood. At the age of twelve, I was introduced into a bilingual classroom for the first time. The crowded classroom was a combination of seventh and eighth grade Spanish-speaking students, who ranged from the ages of twelve to fifteen. The idea of bilingual education was to help students who weren’t fluent in the English language. The main focus of bilingual education was to teach English and, at the same time, teach a very basic knowledge of the core subjects Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences. I have to say that for being a person that speaks English as a second language is a barrio for me. I was not allow to speak English in my house my mom would always get upset if we did spoke English, she said we most speak it only at school and outside of the house with friends because she didn’t understand the language she said it wasn’t necessary to speak it at home. Beyond the Language Barrier Nobody’s born with the language they speak today. Everyone is born with a clean tongue that is transformed to make sounds and words that are native to their homeland and people they were raised by. Language can’t be described as a trait, like the color of your skin or the width of your shoulders. When society discriminates against individuals that speak differently, they are judging them based on how they were raised and how they were taught to speak, people don’t see them as just a person that didn’t have a choice of how they wanted to communicate, and conformed to fit into a puzzle of a whole area of people that sound the same way For me this was very hard because I only spoke English at school and had to manage with being a bilingual person, this was a big challenge for me because when I had to do homework I didn’t have the no one to ask for help so it was frustrating for me, but I was dealing with this…

From the Legislation called Title VI Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prohibits the ideals behind discrimination a student base on their race, color and/or background to gaining a education, to Ronald Reagan proving the right for school districts to choose the kind of language program that they want in their schools, this encourages many ESOL and ESL programs to emerge and help student who derive from a different country where English is not their primary language, to learn and communicate, interact and even assist love ones with the English language.
