My Musical Identity When the word music comes into mind, there are too many feelings rushed in all at once. Music is the worlds universal language. Melodies and harmonies mark pavements as they are heard by millions around the world. The importance of music in my life is too significant that as my life progress, music takes a greater role and has more value. Music has always been my escape. Harmony, melody and lyrics have been a guide throughout my life and have help me deal with issues and phases that others could have not. The sound of your favorite song or artist being played can be soothing, destressful and relaxing to one. It can also be a motivator in times of need, desperation. Music to me, is a memoir of stages throughout an individual's lifetime. It is a markdown and an interpretation of ones own heart. Music to me has always been a tool to guide me throughout stages in life. Back during my childhood i would listen to whatever was on the radio or whatever my parents would play at home, but even so as a child I often found myself singing my heart out as well as getting emotional to songs being played on the radio. As i got older, i started realizing and analyzing the lyrics in songs and began to interpret them carefully. The comfort i have found within the

melodies was a relationship bound to exist. Throughout my adolescence, my musical experience, or identity was generally skewed. I was never brought up around a specific genre of music like most children were. Both of my parents had migrated to the United States during their teenage years making our taste in music very diverse. Through them, as well as my grandparents occasionally, I was exposed to what they listened to which ranged from 70’s to 80's hits, all

For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for music. Even as a little girl, our home videos show me singing with my sister, tapping out rhythms, and playing on various toy instruments we had all over the house. My parents encouraged me to explore several instruments, but when I was five, a professional flutist who performed at our elementary school fueled my inspiration. Ever since then I have been committed to the music, making it an essential part of my life everyday.…

My life sounds like a lot of things, the sound of my kitten making strange noises because she doesn’t meow, the sound of my brothers chasing each other up the stairs, and the sound of my entire family having dinner at my house for a special occasion. But, those aren’t the only sounds. I have grown up in a household where music has always existed. In every car ride there was always music. That's what I remember most about my childhood, is the music that we listened too. There were memories that had nothing to do with them of course, but there are many small memories that are centered around a certain song that we'd all dance and sing to. The song itself isn't what's special, it's the memories that go along with it.…

As a little girl I wanted to be just like Hannah Montana. As I got older, I wanted to be like Rachel Berry, a small town girl living out a big town dream. I wanted to be looked up to because of my musical talent. Walking into Mrs. Kaiser's 7th hour, 8th grade band, I didn't know that music would have such an impact in my life. Music has become the spark of my intellectual curiosity. There are millions of combinations of key signatures, chords, melodies and rhythm in the world of music just waiting to become attached to a sheet of staff lines and spaces. Ever since my first experience with music in the fourth grade, my mind began to explore all these combinations of problems. Music helped me with math, english and gave me a place to escape when I was put into undesirable situations. In Middle…

Music has played a significant role throughout my whole life. All throughout middle school and high school I have been a performer, participating in many different musical organizations including orchestra and choir. These personal experiences have broadened my interests in music. In middle school I was in choice voices, which was a special singing group for people who excelled in singing. When I went to high school I stayed in the same program and even became senior section leader of my choir, conducting different songs at our concert and being in charge of different performances. During my childhood I was part of the choir at my church, and performed during the different holiday masses.…

The music that I associate with childhood is salsa music, because my father was in a few salsa bands while I was growing up. Other music that I associated with my childhood was house music, break dancing music, Pop and dance music. My music choices just remind me of specific memories in my childhood. When I listened to salsa music this would be times when my father would pick me up for the weekend and he would have the music blaring in the car. He would also take me to his band practices or performances. I always felt good to watch my dad play percussion. This is what made me love salsa music. I relate break dancing music to memories with two of my uncles. They were professional break dancers and were even extras in a break dancing movie called “Breakin’”. My uncles would practice their moves in a Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot on cardboard boxes. My uncles would teach my brother and I some moves. I had so much fun with them. Pop music brings me back to a memory with my Abuela (Grandmother). She used to love listening to the song “Rhythm of the Night” by El DeBarge. We would sing and dance in her living room almost everyday. I correlate dance music to Diana Ross. She was my favorite singer. Kids were mean to me when I was younger and teased me about my hair. One day I saw her performing on T.V. and I said “Hey, my hair is like hers!” I was so proud that I would pretend I was her and performed her songs for my Titi (Aunt). These choices reflect great memories for me in my childhood experiences.…

I had always loved music. My parents once told me I sang before I spoke, I played piano before I could ride a bike. I listened to everything from mariachi music to soft jazz. For me, there are secrets hidden in the melody of a song, filling me with a need to decode it. That was why I had always loved to play and related to my old piano teacher, Rachel, who felt the same as I did.…

Music is one of the greatest and most influential devices that we as humans deal with on a day to day basis. It plays such an important role in our lives and helps build character without us ever thinking twice about it. In today's society there are so many types and genres of music that you can find a song for any type of mood that you're in. Music has the power to bring thousands of people from opposite walks of life together. When I stop and think about the songs that bring up the best memories it creates a wide spectrum of genres. Ranging from Garth Brooks the "Thunder Rolls" to classical Ave Maria, to Bone Thugz N Harmony and Sweetish Rock band by the name of Volbeat. The list of songs to come not only have personal stories behind each and every one of them, but they also tell a timeline from my earliest memories as a child growing up with three older brothers, to the highs and lows of being a teenager in high school, and to spending a year in Afghanistan.…
