My Algebra Workbook
This algebra workbook is designed for those are making their first contact with algebra, or for those need a review and to practice previous learned contents.
The purpose of this book is based on the idea that the student actually learns only after the resolution of many problems, where they will have the opportunity to apply and get familiar with the concepts learned.

Each chapter is divided into conceptual, examples, solved problems, and chapter problems sections.

The conceptual sections the concepts are presented in a simple and concise language. Each new definition and / or property is illustrated in the examples section. As a complement to the conceptual section, each chapter has sections with solved problems.
The main function of these sections with solved problems
…show more content…
This section serves as review, and at the same time as a test.
Since the degree of difficulty of the problems are the same as the Solved Problems section, if the student feels unable to solve some problem, I suggest that he / she return to the corresponding problem at Solved Problems section, and study it.

I remember that mathematics is a discipline where the concepts are presented in a cumulative sequence, ie each new concept makes use of other concepts presented earlier. Therefore, one can not learn the multiplication or division if did not learned addition and subtraction before. Someone can not learn exponents if he/she does not know how to multiply, and so on.
But this is a mistake that many people make, and is one of the main responsible for the impression that many people have that mathematics is very difficult to learn.
I believe that the reader to follow these suggestions will have a great chance to benefit from the study of this book.

The problem 46 on page 240 in the text book, Elementary and Intermediate Algebra asks that I evaluate an inequality equation that can satisfy the Ozark Company needs. (Dugopolski, M. 2012 )The paragraphs ask for an inequality that can allow the company to use 3000 board feet of maple lumber. Of the 3000 board feet of lumber, the company will need 15 board feet to make classic rockers, and 12 board feet to make modern rockers. Therefore the inequality equation will equal to: 12x + 15y ≤ 3000. The company wants to see if how many classic or modern rockers they can manufacture with 3000 feet of maple lumber.…

Algebra has long been taught in the same way. This usually means teachers rely heavily on the textbook. Though some textbooks have changed in recent years, the central focus is till on paper and pencil, memorization of rules, and use of algorithms. The Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM 1989) asks mathematics teachers to seek activities that “model real-world phenomena with a variety of function” and “represent and analyze relationships using tables, verbal rules, equations, and graphs”. The standards also urge teachers to give students the opportunity to be actively involved in math through data analysis and statistics that are integrated into the curriculum. My hope is to show that these types of activities can be incorporated into an algebra I course as a way of teaching slope, y-intercept, and linear equations.…

In this report I am going to focus on the basic errors and misconceptions made by pupils studying algebra, specifically within key stage 3. Algebra is the generalisation of arithmetic, containing a wealth of symbolic notation, in which students have not previously met. It is not surprising that students find the basic concepts hard to grasp, resulting in many errors and misconceptions.…

I never came kindly to the subject of Math. Math was always about constant rote memorization, full of extensive redundant notes that always found their way stuffed into the folds of my notebook never to be seen again. I held onto this impression the entire duration of ninth grade. However, upon a simple happenstance of acquiring the right math teacher with a different approach to math, I became increasingly aware of my previous errors in thinking. Everything was not as unyielding and tedious as I thought it was. Experiencing a teacher with a powerful new perspective altered my rigid frame of thinking, allowing me to excel in math.…
