Students with and without the disabilities learn together in the same classroom. Students develop their social and academic skills (Stenberg college, 2017). Inclusive education is free from any discrimination such as colour, gender, culture, and religion. My personal vision is to become supportive, caring and kind education assistant. Inclusion, equity, assessment, building good relationships with teachers and students are vital what I aim to achieve as an SEA. My mission is to create an environment to feel special need students valuable and equal. Also, to realize them that they have the abilities and capabilities as the other students have. Moreover, to help students to achieve maximum and inspire them. I value building relationships with the students and provide the best academic and personal assistance as I can. Hence, I believe that each student can achieve the best according to their abilities and capabilities. Each student is unique and has some qualities. To provide the best assistance to the students who have exceptionalities, can help them to become them self-motivated and confident to face the challenges. My values and principles are respect, giving equity to the students, built relationships, good teamwork, …show more content…
SEA assist the students who need extra care and support in the classroom. I have learned that education assistants use various strategies to support students such as providing visual aids, modify the content of the learning material, and by reading the difficult words etc. SEA help students in completing their work and assignments. For example, making flash cards, providing extra reading material from the library (BCTF, 2009). SEA provide personal assistance to the students who have physical disabilities. In this course, I gained knowledge about the behavioral support and helping special need students to develop social skills. Moreover, SEA support students who have exceptionalities, to learn basic life skills (Moody, 1999). There are some roles and responsibilities that surprised me about the role of an SEA in the classroom. Firstly, I was not aware that personal assistance is provided by an SEA, for example, toileting, feeding, and dressing. I got surprised when I have learned that SEA also provides para-medical care to the special need student such as seizure management and ostomy care. But, all the para-medical care need additional training (Moody, 1999). The second thing that surprises me is that the SEA work under the direction of the classroom teacher and must follow the IEP plan. IEP is the plan for the special need students which is developed by the classroom teacher and SEA work according to the IEP. Each
