My Brother Sam is Dead is about a family where the oldest son is a patriot and is fighting in the Revolutionary War. The parents and the younger brother consider themselves to be Loyalists. Of course they disagree on the oldest brother’s, Sam’s, actions. This story takes us through daily life with Sam away. Some major events are the dad, Life, being taken away by cowboys, Sam dying and Tim, the youngest brother, witnessing many gory things and having to step up and be a leader in his family. The most interesting part in this novel and something I learned is that there were cowboys who took part in many bad actions. There were mainly Patriot cowboys who weren’t necessarily the men who took care of a farm and their animals. Instead, they would
