My Challenges As A Written Writer
Since junior high school, I have been taught that written communication involves expressing yourself clearly, using language with precision; constructing a logical argument; note taking, editing and summarising; and writing reports. Often a skilled writer has difficulty with “negotiating and coordinating basic skills, knowledge, strategies, and conventions of the written language” (p. 54). Imagine the challenges of a child diagnosed with ADHD. ADHD affects approximately 2 million school-aged children. These children are predicted to perform academically much lower than their intellectual capability. During my writing process, I came across a tolerable amount of obstacles. I felt the tendency to occupy a higher quality word choice, as well as better sentence structure. Sentence structure was especially arduous, for I found a great deal of simple sentences in my narrative introduction. However, I did overcome these obstacles with the help of my peer-checking partner, my classmates around me, and my background knowledge in regards to applying what I already know into my assignments. On the contrary, there were a few things I could facilitate. As I write down or think of proposals to apply to my assignments, it is almost as if the suggestions are pouring from out of my head, onto the paper. I write down what I feel sounds right, and if ultimately…

I used to believe I was a good writer. Throughout my elementary school education, creative writing dominated curriculum which allowed my extremely creative mindset to thrive. In middle school, I developed an elitist mentality about my writing ability. Believing that I reached my academic peak, I felt no need to sharpen my writing skills, causing me to become close minded to critique or other writing styles. Upon entering high school, I still clung to the idea that I was the best, but after my first week of class, I realized how weak my writing skills were in contrast to those of other students. Now, I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and hope to have come far from my middle school self.…

Writing has always been my most difficult part of English. Reading, on the other hand, is something I could do all day; however, with writing, I grimace just thinking about it. It was not that I did not have anything to say, because I actually have quite a bit to say. I just could never figure out how to phrase what I had to say in just right way on the page. My mom taught me to read and write at a young age. After that, I would devour any book that I could get my hands on. However, I have had trouble with writing since it became more than just my alphabet and numbers.…

Throughout my spring semester, my time in WRC 1023 has challenged me to the highest level that I have reached in my academic years. I have never labeled myself as a strong writer, however now that I have written 3 papers, rhetorical analysis’s, and drafts I can say that I have learned the strengths and weaknesses that I acquire. After these assignments, I am now aware that I am able to back up my arguments and the opposition efficiently, expand my essays more so, and am always willing to ask a peer for assistance to make sure my essays are understandable. However I still remain with the same weaknesses I have had since the beginning of my writing experience. These weaknesses are mechanical errors, jumping into essays, and procrastination.…

Overall I struggle with writing, I can never remember all of the grammar rules or sentence structure types. At the beginning of the year I relied on other people's opinions and revisions to make grammar and content corrections, but now I am able to have a stronger piece of writing and not be dependant on others. At the beginning of the year I had procrastinated so much to the point where it was the day of and I just started an essay, but currently I make sure I start a week before at minimum so I know I have time to go through the proper revision process and don't have to stress about it last minute. The op-ed and the speech helped me improve the most. The op-ed I started right when the assignment was given to me, this was the point where I…

Many of us wonder where writers such as Stephen King, Elie Wiessel, Toni Morrison, Anne Rice, James Patterson, Maya Angelo, Hill Harper, and Joanne Jo Rowling got their inspiration to guide such blooming writers as myself. Since my early childhood I have always been fascinated with thrillers, suspense, sci-fi, romantic love triangles, and stories about my heritage and religion as well as others. When I was in school I could remember my English teacher gave the class a writing assignment; which was to write a short story. My short story was a scary story; scary movies intrigued me back then. That was the beginning of my tales as a writer.…
