I have never had to write a paper longer than 6 pages until I came to this class. Paper 2, with a minimum of 6-8 pages tested those abilities. Paper 2 came out to be 7 and a quarter pages with a work cited of 8 sources. With this strength, I am able to create longer papers and elaborate more on my topics. In order for me to reach these page requirements, I was challenged to dig deeper into my topic and pull information out to back up my argument. This is a great strength that I acquire because it helps me to be ready for my upper-level courses when I will be assigned papers 10-15 pages long. An example of elaboration in my papers is paper 2 giving a high requirement of sources that forced me to write more because of the mass about of information I was getting. I was seeing a mass amount of “soft news” articles which is news that is more “into social media and the new scandals” (Media Consolidation Destroying Televised News, 5). Because there were so many of these articles it allowed me to elaborate on my argument. I have trouble with proofreading and seeing things I should reword or change so I do not hesitate to ask another’s for assistance. I am always, especially during college, determined to never fail assignments; so to prevent that, the day before my essay is due, I will have a friend or family member read over my essay to receive some feedback and see what they think. This method is effective for me because the catch a few mistakes that I was unable to see. In paper 3, I was confused how to in text cite the offender information of those on death row so I asked a friend of mine for assistance who was in my class. Because I utilized one of my peers, I was able to save myself from knocking points off my paper. The correct sentence was “The second case is man named Harlem Harold III who was convicted of running away from a police officer and killing him along with another man who had entered the scene” with the in-text citation (Offender Information)” (The Death Penalty: A Right or Wrong Punishment?, 5). Along with this example, there have been countless times where I have asked for assistance to verify its flow. I believe that this strength helps my grade immensely and overall shows how important it is to me to get a good grade on my essays.
