My Coat Of Arms

There are many things that make someone the person they are. Self-concept is defined as the relatively stable set of perceptions you hold of yourself (Adler et al. 70). There are many ways to describe this and I used gender, culture, reflected apprasials, and social comparisons to describe my own individual self-concept. This coat of arms is unique to me because each of the images describes certain areas of my self perception. Culture is defined as the language, values, beliefs, traditions, and customs people share and learn (Adler et al. 38). I chose to identify with being feminine because I have always had more femanine characteristics as in being more nuturing as well as sensitive. I am very feminine in the aspect of loving makeup and all things girly. I believe on a social aspect I have always automatically been catogorized in the feminine gender, but it has made me realize that you can be feminine and have masculine qualities too. This is the reason I chose the symbol of a strong beautiful women to portray the gender I am. Although I am a very feminine person, I am also a very strong person mentally and physically and although physical strength is normaly a masculine trait I believe to can show femininity too. 72). This is something that is good or bad that has come to influence an individuals self esteem. A reflected appraisal that has helped shape me is being told I am smart and achieve good grades. This is something family and friends have said my whole life and continue to say while I am pursing my degree. This is something that has always boosted my self esteem and eventually led to me devoloping a high self esteem of myself. Because I was often told I was smart or heard family talking about it I believed what others said and I feel like this shaped the way I studied and how I did in school. This judgment made me value myself and think highly of myself which is why it is an example of a reflected appraisal. The symbol I chose to represent this is a paper with an A+ written on it. I think this represents my specific reflected appraisal because it shows that what others said about me really stuck with me and I started to feel the same way.
