When I walk up the steps of my university's library I carry more than my backpack and books, I carry the hopes and dreams of my parents, grandparents, and ancestors. The tears I shed when I am stressed from my college courses slide down the same path the tears my father shed when he was forced to leave El Salvador. My experience of being shaped and influenced by the great city of Houston, a city fueled by diversity, has given me the drive needed to take advantage of every opportunity that gets placed onto my path of success.

With more than 55 million latinos nationwide it is incredible to know that our community is one of the most underrepresented in the United States. Language and cultural differences are not the only things that are holding latinos back. In the nation that we live in finding a legal voice who understands the diverse demands our community goes through when migrating into a new land is hard enough. Achieving a J.D. is only the beginning for the plans that I have for my career and my involvement in the latino community of Houston.
