In my nursing practice, the most important values are respect, human dignity, and honesty. I think those are the fundamental foundations that human should have between each others. Showing respect to patients tell them that they are important in the process of healing. It also gives them peace of mind that I am here for them with intention to help them recover. Honesty is important in building a trusting relationship with my patients. I always tell my patients the truth, regardless if it is good or bad, because I believe that shows them that I respect them and treat them with dignity that they deserve.
Morals is a person’s belief in what is good or bad. It vary from person to person base on beliefs, values and experience in life. Their values help them distinguish from what is right or wrong. The ability to distinguish what is right or wrong enable me to provide appropriate and best for my patients in the best of my ability. Normally, for a patient with low hemoglobin, transfusion is a must without second thoughts about it. However, knowing this patients religious beliefs, I knew transfusion will never take place. The only thing I did was to confirm with the patient about his religious beliefs and practice regarding not receiving blood. The patient eventually past away under my care, where I knew that I did the best and showed the patient respect by not forcing him to go against his religious beliefs. Knowing I did the best I could, I overcame the feeling of guilt; however, it still did not feel good, knowing that interventions could have taken place to safe a human
