My decision to go back to school was not one to take lightly, especially since my son will be going off to college this fall, and financially it didn’t make sense. After much thought and prayer, I decided that this time is as good as any, and honestly it can be very easy to keep making excuses.
The next big decision was what type of school and which school would be best for me as an adult learner. I was already leaning strongly towards a Christian University since I knew I wanted a Christian based learning environment, and an education that will allow me to
grow in my faith and my relationship with the Lord. Once I applied to CCU, everything fell into place, and that was so comforting as a new student, and as an adult learner entering college for the first time.
While attending CCU, it is imperative that I set goals for myself in order to be a successful student. First, I am determined to complete my degree in the four years with no excuses. This means that I remain focused on my mission, and that I don’t allow anything or anybody detour me from what God has planned for me. It can be very easy to become discouraged and impatient as an adult learner, but as an adult I also need to take ownership and responsibility for any emotions I struggle with and give it to God.
Secondly, I was motivated to attend a Christian University because I knew I wanted to have a God- centered philosophy so that my beliefs and values would not be waivered, and that my attitude and choices reflect those of Christ and not of my own flesh. This is important to me because working for the Lord is not the same as working for one’s self. A Christian education will allow me to help others with Godly values and beliefs. Attending CCU will also teach me how to live out the Gospel among other Christians.
Lastly, once I obtain my degree from CCU in Organizational Management in Christian Leadership, I hope to be fully prepared for leadership in the church and/or profit and non-profit organizations. My hope is that I can fulfill my commitment at CCU by remaining disciplined in my studies, as well as determined to accomplish the goals that I have set for myself.
