My Decision To Pursue My Education After High School
In my life I have made many important decisions and the most important decision I have made was to continue my education after graduating from high school. During my senior year of high school I did not know what to do with my life like many other high school seniors feel like when they are nearing graduation. Did I want to go to school and continue my education?, did I want to join the military and serve our country or enter the workforce and become a nine to fiver. In the end I ended up a couple heuristics in my decision making process. In my decision making process while I was mulling over what I was going to do with my life when I received my high school diploma I looked to my peers around me and looked to see what they were doing out of highschool. Asking around my peer group I discovered that nearly all of my peers were going to college to continue their education when they got out of high school. I did not want to be the minority of my peer group. There were a couple of people going into the …show more content…
This decision makes sense for people to use because it is the easiest to make and also no one wants to be the outsider. People like to feel safe and when you are in a group you feel safe because you are surrounded by your peers and if the group is wrong all the blame doesn't fall on you it falls on the group. And it is a hell of a lot easier to deal with failure when you are with a group then when you are alone and you take the full force of the failure. And this type of thinking I think doesn't involve the use of critical thinking thinking skills when a person uses various types of heuristics in their decision making. If you look at the six attributes of being a critical thinking (being open-minded, seeking truth, articulating relevant premises, being thorough, using logic and reason, and communicating effectively) you can see that most of the heuristic do not follow any of these

Critical thinking involves a persons ability to reason in order to support their belief. To begin the critical thinking process one must acknowledge the problem at hand, find information on the problem; research, examine the problem closely, apply moral principles, decide the best ethical choice and be able to support the claim, then go back over the process on how one came to their conclusion and lastly reflect on their decision. I have learned that the critical thinking skills process is a buiding block, each step builds onto the other to come to a ethical solution at the end. There is no shortcut to the steps and if I do so then I will not get a logical conclusion to my problem. I beleive out of all the steps the one I find myself using…

My decision to go back to school will cause sacrifices to me, my family and my friends (Bethel University, 2013). All of these sacrifices are worth the goal. My family and friends know my goals, and we have discussed this process in length. I will try to complete my coursework during my down time so that it doesn't effect these relationships, but everyone knows that there may be times that I have to miss something for school. I believe my attending school will be much like my job. There are times that I have to miss family or friend activities for work, but everyone understands because I never use work for an excuse to miss such an event. Questions- When I first graduated high school, I knew that I was not even close to prepared to attend college. In turn, I had to ask myself several questions: Should I even go to college? What would I get out of it? Will it really benefit my future? When should I go to college? Do I want to have to pay student loans off for years to come? What college should I go to? What type of degree should I get? Overall, these were the core questions I asked myself personally. I decided that instead of going to college right out of high school, I was going to take a gap year before college. This allowed me to think carefully about the answers to the questions I previously listed.…

After working in factories most of my life my body was wore out from the physical labor. So I made a decision to go back to school once again. I applied for college at the age of 29 years old. After one semester of my basics I chose to attend big sandy community college and engage in a two year associates degree as an industrial…

Everyone has to make important decisions at some point in their life. Some make better decisions than others and have a good life. I fortunately still have the chance to make that decision. I am going to graduate from high school a year from now and I still have done nothing to make myself stand out in the educational realm. I do not think the big decision is where someone goes to college. I think the biggest decision is how that person wants to be recognized when they are taken into consideration to be admitted to the school. I want to be recognized for my knowledge about computers and the interest to continue studying them until there is nothing I do not know. I have been certified for two subjects that have to do with computers and technology. I have my IT essentials, A+ certification, and I am working on my networking certification. My admiration for computers was set in motion during my sophomore year when a job fair was held at my school. I chose the one for computer science without being super interested, but I chose it because I was curious to find out how powerful technology…
