My Everest Project For my project I decided to do a comic book. On page one I have pictures of the late Scott Fischer and other climbers who have passed away. Sherpa’s and climbers leave the bodies on the mountain in respect for the climbers and what they loved so dearly. It is interesting though, that when Sherpa’s die, little attention is given, but when a climber who is a paying client dies it is a catastrophe. Many of the bodies on Everest have been there for a long time and now are seemingly frozen in time. During Mark’s climbing experience he encounters a body that has been there since the 1980s. On page two I have pictures of the Khumbu Icefall. The Khumbu Icefall is a large
moving glacier located on Everest with deep crevasses in between them. You must conquer the icefall in order to summit the south side of Everest. To cross the icefall is very difficult and requires a lot of time and patience. First the Sherpa’s must put metal ladders from one point of the icefall to a different one then cross the crevasse. After the Sherpa’s are across, they stabilize the ladders so that the other climbers can cross. If you think it’s dangerous for the climbers to cross the icefall with stabilized ladders, then imagine what it would be like for the Sherpa’s who have to cross without stabilized ladders! For the third page of my comic book I had pictures of trash on Everest. Trash is a huge problem on Mt. Everest. Some litter commonly found on Everest is oxygen tanks and camp tents. The garbage left behind over the course of six decades can cause trouble or more danger to new and experienced Everest climbers. There is nearly 120 tons of litter on Everest. Though there are efforts to try and stop or reduce the amount of trash on Mt. Everest, the garbage relies in the hands of the climbers who put it there. Many climbers are unaware of the environmental damage they are causing. Though it seems like a small problem, if we continue down this path of garbage Everest is going to become the world’s highest garbage dump. For the fourth page of my comic book I added pictures of climbers who have summited Everest.
