My Experience on Two Beaches in Vietnam
Two Beaches in Vietnam

There are many beaches in Vietnam, but I only have been to Nha Trang and Vung Tau, which are two famous beaches in my country. Even though both of them are wonderful places where people can relax on vacation, I prefer Nha Trang for three reasons. First of all, the sea view in Nha Trang is more beautiful. While Nha Trang has a blue sea, white sand, and a long range of coconut trees along the beaches, there are gray sea, yellow sand, and many rocks near by the beaches in Vung Tau. Furthermore, there are many small islands where there are many interesting things to discover nearby Nha Trang. Secondly, the food in Nha Trang is delicious. People can try many specialties of Nha Trang. There is also a lot of fresh seafood like squid, lobster, crabs, and clams. In contrast, there is no specialty in Vung Tau although it also has many kinds of seafood. In addition, eating in Nha Trang is less expensive than in Vung Tau. Finally, the atmosphere in Nha Trang is better than in Vung Tau. There is a place where people get oil from the sea, so the atmosphere in Vung Tau is more humid and drier, while in Nha Trang, the atmosphere is purer and less humid. Moreover, the distance from my city to Vung Tau is shorter, so it is a place that many people choose for their short vacation like on a weekend. In contrast, Nha Trang is in the middle part of the county, so people cannot go there in a short time. In brief, there are many differences and similarities between the two beaches, but I still prefer Nha Trang because of the sea view, the food specialties, and the atmosphere.

For this Field report, I visited a wooded area that is near the beach in Chesapeake Beach. From a quick glance, I saw a combination of mature trees and young trees. Since I can see that the trees lost their leaves during the Fall, I will state that they are deciduous trees. They shed their leaves through the process of abscission. For the mature tree in this picture I observed that the trunk is darker than the younger trees in the background and about 15 to 20 feet tall if not higher. Walking through the fallen leaves you can hear branches and twigs break and when I touched the soil it did not feel totally dry since it rained the day before.…

I am a “boot” adjusting to my new life in kilo company, and corporal has recently returned from a nasty deployment in iraq. He says that he is my father and that he knows what’s best. he kicks sand at me while i am timed to see how fast i can pick up all the yellow cigarette butts he dumped on the floor to “fix” my attention to detail and remind me of my ignorance, as he yells, “you are going to war soon, and I won’t be there to babysit you!” During the deployment workups in the states, we spent weeks patrolling, looking for something that we knew wasn’t real. Digging into defensive positions and waiting the night out for an enemy we knew would never come. Spending rainy nights in muddy holes, fearing what our leaders might do to us if we fell asleep. Firing machine guns, shooting rifles and launching grenades at little green targets…. All of it was just training ops.…

Saigon, a small city situated in South Vietnam, is where I grew up. It’s not a big city; however, its population has been growing rapidly in the past decade. New immigrants from different part of the country keep coming toward us for higher-paid jobs and modern technologies. Unlike the U.S, Vietnam is not a developed country. We have low standards living condition; some parts of the country even have no electricity; crimes and violations happen frequently because people want to escape from poverty; etc. Growing up in a country consisted of those characteristics, I was taught to be ambitious and to push myself hard enough to reach higher goals. It is the bad condition in my country that harbors my dreams to come to the US and to get access to…

First off, trip to Vietnam was truly a blessing. I did not expect so much of the trip until the first day I arrived Vietnam. On my first day, I got an opportunity to meet many great people who were selfless; those who cared more about others rather than themselves. It took approximately 14hours in total to arrive at hotel. Even though the plane ride was only about 5hours, since it was a group trip, it took extra time to ensure everyone is in right place. Despite the exhaustion and drowsiness, no one complained but encouraged others. I was already touched by grace of God before we even began our mission trip. On the second day, I volunteered for the medical service. There were two activities including the medical service, and house painting…

When you are someone’s support system you take on multiple roles that indirectly deteriorate your self preservation. Being a listener or a shoulder to cry on, requires sacrifices that, in the moment, you do not even recognize as imposing. Voluntarily and willingly being there for someone begins with the unwavering doubt that you and your own problems cannot and will not prevail over your person’s immediate crisis. Depending on the duration of your duty, a somewhat selfish thought of inconvenience is bound to surface. But, that wave of retraction is almost always combatted by a riptide of dedication and loyalty that brings you back to sea, where all you can do is tread. In turn, the suppression of self regarding issues regularly comes with a layer of obligation and a sting of bitterness.…

Think for a minute about the most thrilling time of your life, that time when your life seemed so exciting, your body was filled with adrenaline, now imagine that moment being drawn out over 4 or more years. This is how a soldiers term overseas feels, they are always on their toes, waiting for the next ambush or ever waiting for their next attack. They never know what is next and soldiers often say they have never felt as alive as they feel in a firefight. Often when soldiers return from war they find their life boring and uneventful, they feel like no one is there for them like they were 4 years prior. They feel empty.…

I saw him laying there. A loving, free soul now dead. The grass once the only remembrance of nature, now a painting of red. There were a thousand mirrors, each with a different person reflecting the same expression of horror, embedded in a brown blanket of buildings. This was not a battlefield, it was merely a repercussion of the Vietnam War. The drafting of soldiers was only a waste of our country’s youth, and it has led to the death of many. The patch of green, the bulls eye of the campus was now surrounded with a swarm of green and brown; the cunning antagonist of Kent State.…

Growing up I would always listen to my dad speak of his war stories, but I never fully grasped the meaning of what it all meant. As I got older, I was able to understand his words about his time in the Vietnam War, from near death experiences to his most thrilling moments of life. My dad always follows up his life experiences and adventures with “But you have to do well in school, go to college, and get a good job, because unfortunately I was unable to.” Following the war, my dad and his family moved to California and he was thrust into work as a manicurist. Being that young men were forced into recruitment during the war- my dad, a college student at the time, was enlisted into the South Vietnam army and thus was unable to finish college.…

If I have the opportunity to travel back through time. I would like to stop at the Vietnam War era. When I was young, I didn’t obtain anything my history teacher lectured. I just learned to get over with it and not comprehend any information. Not until I came to the United States and started to learn about my country's history. By that time, I was old enough to understand what this war was about and how many innocent lives have been sacrificed. This topic has attracted all my interest. I spent a day researching it. I was so emotional when I saw the photo from this war or think about it. I’m not meant to exaggerate, but I couldn’t hold my tears when I read about it. I hope for one day that I could be present in this era. To…

Have you ever wanted to take a long walk on the beach alone? Well, I have when I was four years old. I stayed in a white motel called, "The Atlantis" off the shore of old Orchard Beach, Maine. This is what happened. Being a normal four-year-olds, I took a nap on the red floral printed comforter. When my parents finally had decided to take a nap, I had just woken up. So, I didn't want to just fall back asleep, I decided to leave. I jumped out of bed and unlocked the door as quietly as possible, but it still had squea want to just fall back asleep, I decided to leave.
