The home of my Father’s Aunt, shown to be spotlessly clean by the light creeping in through the solitary window. The living area: the size of my present bedroom. I am ashamed of what I have, and even more so, of what I wanted.…
There is no place like mi casa. After a long day of school or a tiring session of work, the one place I can surely count on is home. Deep in the outskirts of Miami Gardens, this relaxing getaway destination awaits. While not the fanciest nor extravagant, my house is a convenient three bedroom apartment in the residency of Walden Pond. The building is beige with firebrick red stairs and a faded grey roof. The stairs are firm, and have rust stains due to weathering. Walking into the apartment, the aroma of Glade air freshener greets you before the people do. The walls are an orange-brown color, and immediately upon entry there are plaques and awards for my siblings showing their accomplishments in school. A glass table with flowery boutique sits…

“The family House” by Felix Leclerc uses the extended metaphor referring the house as a ship. This short story has many supporting examples implied throughout the whole story which contribute to the extended metaphor unveiled. Here are several of the many examples unveiling why the house is an extended metaphor.…
And so, I made my way in, as I tried to push open the door, it collapsed which made me even more warry of what was to come. But then suddenly I found myself in my parent’s room, which still held the scent of my mother’s perfume and the strong aroma of my father’s deodorant. Though this sense was in my head, and soon I came back to reality, by having the overwhelming stench of rotten floorboards and the garden, makings its home inside make its way inside of my nostrils. I see, for the first time in a long time, my parents, though not how I imagined. Their bones, though very brittle were laying on the bed, with my mother in my father’s arms, I broke down.…
Pushing past my anxiety and entering the family’s home, I look around me and took in the large, multi-purpose room. Scattered amongst the large wooden dining table, couches, and television, the sentimental trinkets and children’s toys added warmth to the small home. Although the walls were unfinished and half-painted, the home felt lived-in and cherished. The air was stale and warm, yet the room exuded an air of sweet, beloved family memories. Immediately,…
The war on drugs whether wrong, right, or indifferent, has yielded a plethora of life changing outcomes for many United States citizens. Both the plaintiff and the defendant have their own side of the dispute, and yet somehow the plaintiff in the non-stop ‘cash grab’ that’s so conveniently nicknamed the “War on Drugs” gets the benefit of zero-tolerance, or minimum sentencing. In most cases the defendants simply are doomed from the beginning due to horrible living conditions and lack of jobs in the area. Coupled with police brutality and prejudice pointed toward the African-American community as a whole, it should come as no surprise that in 2011 there were more African-Americans in prison or “under the watch” of the justice system than were enslaved in the United States in 1850. This is not any more a war on drugs than the Iraqi Conflict was a war on the seizure of weapons of mass destruction.…
In the short story “My Parent’s Bedroom” by Uwem Akpan, the country of Rwanda is having a civil war between the Hutus and Tutsis, the primary trying to eradicate the latter. The Hutus force Papa to kill Maman, which she convinces him that it was only solution. However, it wasn’t the best choice in his family’s situation. The Wizard and the Hutus arrive to ensure that Papa slays his Tutsi spouse, Maman. Papa murders her to please the crowd, “If you let any Tutsi live, you’re dead. And then they begin to leave, some patting him on the back,” (27). I find this to be the only major decision made in the story because it severs the whole family’s connection with one another, and especially leaves Monique traumatized. There were few consequences,…
Finally, after so many years I am on my way home, “second” home after my parents’. I feel very excited, as it is not just a house that I used to rent, but a “magic” place, where being away from my parents I could experience home comfort. I haven’t been there for about five years since I graduated from University, and I miss it a lot. This time is going to be a short stay, for only a few days, but I am glad I can spend it there. That place made my school time enjoyable, and the landlady Maria treated me like her own granddaughter. She was a lovely and a very kind-hearted person and could cheer me up when I needed it most. All my friends and I loved her because of her young and vibrant mind with a trusting spirit. Despite of her age, she remained a very beautiful creature; her blue eyes and warm smile could make anyone feel welcome. With the snow-white hair she was almost like an angel. Her house itself was very charming although not fashionable; it was more like country style. Wooden furniture made from logs and twigs, roughly cut and sawn with no ornate, looked very simple and straight. I loved the kitchen with its old open-shelved dresser, wooden draining racks for plates above the sink, and the big wooden table decorated with dried flowers. The handmade wool rugs on the floor and the linen curtain on the windows reflected in warmth and cosiness. She surrounded herself with the things she loved. Each item in the house had a story and had been created, or collected, and displayed with love and passion. Her house was the perfect place on the Earth to be on a cold winter’s night. I remember myself sitting by the wooden fire oven, chatting with my friends and Maria about anything, and drinking something warm and delicious. These moments have become one of the most memorable since I was a student.…
The house I lived in with my grandparents was a big nice two story house located in small village called Naugajja in Punjabi, India. The house it had six bedrooms big back yard. While living at my grandparent’s house I learned many things like traditions, foods culture and family. The most interesting tradition to me was the grandma’s traditional way to welcome the guests. It was the most unique way to welcome people I had ever seen. She would have wick made out of cotton wool lit with fire and placed in the in a bowl. A coconut filled with water, flowers, and incense was placed in a tray and she rotated the tray in circular motion in front of guest. She said the purpose of performing this is to ward off evil effects.it was really cool to learn a new tradition.…
Up to now, I have owned this room for five years. It is designed and decorated in the way I like. The walls of the room are painted light blue which is my favorite color. This kind of color makes the room not only cool but also spacious. The wall in front of my bed is decorated by myself. In the middle of the wall, I put the biggest and the most beautiful photograph. A middle-aged man sits comfortably on the bench; his arm is draping around the shoulder of a woman next to him. She bends her head on his broad shoulder, having a beam of satisfaction. Two little girls in lovely, pink dresses stand behind them, smiling happily- pretty smiles as like as the woman. Next to two girls are two young men. One in a smart suit has a square face. His light brown eyes look straight in a sensible way. The other seems younger than him, but he gives other people a friendly and warm look. They are very happy and satisfactory. This is my family photograph. Around this photo, I put some snaps that I took not only with my family but also with my friends. These remind me of memorable and great moments with them who always give me lots of support; and they become my motivators which help my mind stronger to get over whichever difficulties.…
I like my bedroom the most in my house because it is a place I can study and relax. Right at the corner of the room is a queen size bed which takes most of the space of my room. The bedspread is light pink and matches with the dark pink flower blanket. My iPod is always under my pink pillow so that I can listen to music or watch a movie when I am about to go to sleep. Next to the bed is a two drawer wood nightstand with a classic night lamp and a pink alarm clock on its top. Above the top of my bed is a window that I open every morning for the sunshine go through and to hear the birds sing. The wall is painted white which makes my room look a little bit bigger. In the left corner of the room is a closet which is half organized. My clothes and bags are separated by a shelf. The clothes are hung in order by color and look very neat under the shelf, but the bags on the shelf are pretty messy. At the back of the room is a small desk which I use every day for studying and reading. Whenever I get home, the first thing I do is go in my room and lie down on my bed. It makes me feel very relax and peaceful when I just look around my room or through the window. In a word, although my bedroom is pretty small, it is the place that I can enjoy my own world every…

A room is a space that can be occupied or where something can be done. Usually it is a division of a building that is enclosed by walls, floor, and ceiling. Here I will write about my room. My room is the most favorite place in my world, it is like the second heaven for me. I live with my family in an apartment with several rooms. But my room is the most beautiful and decorated in our apartment. It’s south facing and the size of the room is about 13 x 15 ft. The wall is cream colored. There are all sort of modern facilities in my room what makes it very confortable to live. There is a double size bed in the left corner of the room which is made by wood and it is very confortable to sleep on it. There is lamp beside my bed and a sofa as well. My room has got a big window. It looks so beautiful when light comes through the window in my room during the morning and twilight. There is a reading table with chair just under the window. I put all of my necessary things for study on this table. I also put my personal computer on it. Beside my table, there is a nice wardrobe where I keep my clothes and valuable things. It has got a big mirror on the cover. There are a good numbers of pictures of my family and friends hung on the wall. When I feel depressed, I take a look on these pictures to make my mind happy and cheerful. All pictures are neatly placed in their proper spots in a collage. My room has got a balcony too. I have a sliding glass door going out to my balcony. The view from my balcony is really amazing. I usually go there before the sun set and like to see the beauty of nature. I can see the road opposite of our apartment from the balcony. There is a rocking chair in my balcony. It gives me amazing feelings when I sit on my rocking chair and take breath from cool breeze. I always like to keep my room neat and clean. All of these in my room make me very comfortable and relax. I love my room very…
