The Cherokee removal has been “transformed into a user- friendly, consumer driven ride” that fosters a voyeuristic, fetishized, and escapist experience that is “meant to be fun for the whole…
Criminal statistics are based on reported recorded crimes. In the United States of America there two major statistics used in crime investigating. One is the Uniform Crime Reports(UCR) and The National Incident -Based Reporting System(NIBRS). The other is the National Crime Victimization Survey(NVCS).…
A.1. A forty-five minute ride from Greenville will set you into the scenic views past Pickens, SC. Once you approach the Road Kill Grill, you’ll know you’ve only got about 10 more minutes until you run out of road down a gravel path to a parking area. These twin falls are only a short hike from the car.…
Do you recall the last time when you took a relaxing drive while enjoying the scenery? Can you remember the last time you chose a route that guided you through lush forests, along the coast, or perhaps through scenic mountain passes? For many of us the answer is most likely a "no". However, that should not prevent you from embarking on a scenic journey. North America's scenic routes have been carved out from the time the first explorer discovered America. The moment you discover your ideal route, you'll be amazed the unrestrained freedom the wide open road provides.…
Have you ever been to a camp that did not even have a roof to cover the rain? The camp had tons of people, especially friends, it had to different cabins, five for the boys and five for the girls. The camp had an awesome pool and an amazing lake that a lot of people swam in. There were also a lot of cookout with no hot dogs, pork chops, burgers, and only marshmallows for dessert. At nighttime there would be wonderful tag games in the dark and when you were done, you get to talk with other people. The camp lasts a total of at least 7 long days and a lot of people would probably want to come back a second time. Also the name of the camp is Camp Manitowa which is located in Benton, Illinois.…
5. What does the plantation tour industry in the New Orleans area look like? Who are the major players and what are their relative strengths? The plantation tour industry in Southern Louisiana takes advantage of the proximity of both New Orleans, a major international tourist destination, and Baton Rouge, a medium sized state Capitol and college city, to draw visitors interested in experiencing antebellum plantation life on the Mississippi River. Plantation tours represent a side activity for tourists visiting the area, particularly for those who have spent a few days in New Orleans and are seeking an alternate, lower-key attraction. Visitors to the area might contact a travel agent about such tours prior to visiting the area, or from a hotel concierge, or from a brochure provided by a local limousine or bus tour company to promote day-long or half-day tours. Eleven plantation homes located anywhere from 20 to 110 miles away from New Orleans are discussed in the case. The following table presents some of the relative strengths and weaknesses of these establishments, relative to the Nottoway Plantation:…
We were ready. Paddles in hand, canoe by our side, personal floatation devices, knee pads, and cameras. The afternoon sun shined on the lake, reflecting it across the calm waters. Crowds of people were enjoying their Sunday afternoon on North Beach at Devil’s Lake State Park. Young children stumbled on the moist sand and shallow waters as they tried to catch tadpoles with their small buckets. Soothing, a gentle breeze passed by as we walked towards the edge of Devil’s Lake. Marveling at the majestic mountain of cedars around the lake and smelling the damp sand, my dad, little sister, and I were all set to take on our first wilderness inquiry; canoeing across a lake. It was safe to say that we were in for an exciting adventure…

One is being away from friends and family. While I do plan on taking this course with Jessica Hines, I’ll be away from everybody else I know for months. I will have a phone on me, but besides being on it for a short while near the end of the day, I won’t be using it. Another con about the trail is that it’ll be incredibly hard; for half a year I’ll be spending my days walking. Sore, weak, and tired, I’ll want to quit, so I’ll have to keep myself going. It also takes lots of preparation before hand—if you plan on making it to the finale, you better be in good shape. Being out in nature, I will need to be wary of bugs, especially ticks (that carry lyme disease) which are prominent in that area of the country. The final problem of going through this is the cost of it. There are many things you need to bring with you, and in order to have enough for the entire trip, you should have between $3 - $6,000. In closing, there are many difficulties that I will have to face while traversing the…
The location of the conference alone makes the trip worthwhile---the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. The Biltmore house itself is a national treasure, I’m told. Commissioned in 1887 by George Vanderbilt and molded after elegant French chateaus, it remains the largest private home in this country today with its 35 guest rooms, its banquet hall and library, its handsome collection of sculpture and paintings, and its extensive grounds. It will take us from 6 to 8 hours to get there, depending on which of us does most of the driving.…
I've been fortunate to have traveled all over the world, but for the past several years I keep finding new places right here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Two of my favorite mountain towns are McCaysville and Blue Ridge. Both are old as the hills and have quaint, but big personalities. I can kick back and relax or I can get on the river and fish or boat or just rubberneck. The hills are filled with lush hiking trails for the enthusiast as well as the stroller. It's all good. These two gems are located in Georgia and in Tennessee on the North Carolina – Tennessee line. You can literally have one foot in each state. You are getting the best of all three…
After dancing, as a group we go out together into the festival and explore what this event has to offer. We spent most of the day there. It was great to see how well all the cultures adapt together in one setting. Everyone seems to get along so well and it gives the environment such a friendly and happy feel. All the food booths pull you in with the amazing aromas, that make your mouth water. They are set up right next to each other and its like walking through different countries right in Tucson. My favorite foods were the Vietnamese boba slushies and the Greek gyros. I tried to make as much room for all the different foods I wanted to try, but there was just so many it was impossible! This is definitely what keeps me going back every year. The delicious food from the many different…
The first event I attended was located in Las Vegas for the National Recreational and Park Association, which was hosted by Kathrine Switzer-Ramer, Christine Wegner and Carrie Briscoe.…
The concert was amazing, very chill and relaxed setting. The weather was perfect the entire weekend with mild temperature and plenty of sunshine. The festival was not extremely crowded, bathrooms and tent grounds had plenty of room. Camped on Grandfather Mountain Campgrounds, a truly badass place at the base of the mountain. An icon of Western North Carolina, Grandfather soars to almost 6,000 feet in elevation, a major peak in the Blue Ridge. No problems throughout the festival, ran smoothly. Railroad Earth killed it every night, great lights and awesome sound. Energy of the crowd was amazing, everybody had high spirits. Nobody at the festival missed Railroad Earth when they came out to play. A band I knew very little about blew me away. One of my favorite bands now from the MOMT 2012. Railroad Earth is the ultimate highlight of the festival, three days of them was almost not enough. Dr. Dog played on friday, awesome band. They started the festival off right giving the crowd great energy. One of my favorite bands at the concert, brought plenty of people in front of the stage to dance. Dr. Dog and Futurebirds sounded different than most of the other bands. The other bands had more of a bluegrass sound. Dr. Dog and Futurebirds sounded more rock, both very good. Futurebirds struck me as a little grunge with great sound. The flag hanging off one of Futurebirds guitars was awesome. The food was awesome, pizza and quesadillas become a favorite of mine. A small amount of food vendors, small tents with clothing and hammocks for sale. Oh yeah, No BEER tent. Strange thing for a music festival to have no alcohol for sale. The mood of the festival was very relaxed and chill. People lounging around on the grass with plenty of room to listen to great music. Cooking and camping outside of the stage area was a fun time. Get to the festival early if you want a secluded camp spot! Great weekend that I will never…
In my neck of the country I get to see pretty amazing sites every day. However, a 45 minute drive in any direction, the sites and the mindset about the world outside changes. In my hometown everyone knows that perfect trail, the hidden away spot to have a first date. When I moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky for college the idea that I was leaving a part of me behind because I had to “adult” now was overwhelming. Can a busy city offer me the sites and waterfalls I grew up around? What I didn’t know, but soon learned, was there is a hollow out in Warren County, Kentucky that still to this day takes my breath away.…
