the compelling emotion. Although he does not want fear to exist, he acknowledges the power it has by giving it a title of “Mr Fear”. Raab gives fear it's own emotions as if he wants it to feel remorse for causing him and others unfathomable torment.
The poem talks about dreams and the possession fear has of it. Nightmares is symbolic to the poem as a way to show how powerful fear is. The horrible illusions are produced from the tainting of Mr. Fear into our peaceful slumbers. Some of our biggest fears seem to come alive as we dream even as we listen to the most pleasing sounds. In stanza six, Raab asks fear if his nightmare can be small and less frightening, like before meeting fear. Raab does an excellent job in learning how to live with fear because he know it is in him as it is in everyone and everything. He does not try to change it but instead accepts it ways as to be apart of him. He titles the poem “My Fear” instead of Fear itself because he want to make us understand that not everyone is alike and not everyone has the same fears. Mr Fear is THE fear as his formal title therefore, it is him who scares the poet because he has the power to inflict other fears upon him.
