My Future Role As a Teacher
Thinking about the role I would like to play as a future teacher I feel more identified with the Counseling/Enabling role because I think is important to let the students know that learning never stops, learning happens in the classroom and out of it, with the teacher’s help, with their classmate’s and by them self, so if as a teacher I play this role I could makes the learners independent of the teacher by questioning, analyzing and reviewing what works best for the students and enabling them to take initiative in their own learning.
I believe that the prepared teacher role and the Metacognition (analysis of one's own learning or thinking processes) could certainly be combined with the organizational role in order to get a highly efficient learning result, so by playing a Prepared role the teacher can establish the purpose for the lessons, prepare all the materials, review the exercises, anticipate possible problems and difficulties that the learner might have and plan solutions for those problems, decide the most concise way of giving instructions, have a back-up plan if something goes wrong in the delivery of the lesson and prepare homework assignment; but at the same time, it could be very helpful to use the metacognition to let the students know what is the goal of the lesson, the reasons for teamwork, how to achieve the learning objectives; teach different methods of learning and discuss which ones the students prefer; in addition, the teacher can use different learning strategies and let the students evaluate the results to be aware of what works best for them, so the learning process can be more efficient, as is written in the Section 1.2, teaching and practicing metacognitive skills in the classroom can enable the students to achieve higher learning by giving them tools to make conscious decisions about their learning process.
