I planned on accomplishing these goals first by asking questions during lab and by pretending the simulation/ case scenarios were real. I knew that it was important to take advantage of our lab times and to make the best of it. I tried to meet my goals by squeezing in as much practice as possible so that I could really familiarize …show more content…
I was able to work on two of my goals, clinical skills and knowledge base. During these labs we learned about pumps, blood transfusion, IV insertion, heparin and insulin protocols. It was fantastic that we were able to work on these skills because they're the skills that we really don't get much of during clinical. I am a kinesthetic learner so having that hands-on experience works best for me.
I was able to explore IV pump programming. It really opened my eyes how helpful technology is in the medical field. It can really help prevent errors and its user-friendly. However, it also showed me that if you're not paying close attention you could easily make a mistake that could have negative outcomes. In general, working through each of these scenarios helped build on my clinical skills.
My favorite part of Sim Lab was the three simulations themselves. I liked how the simulations were set up. The unique setup of the simulations allowed for there to be a progression in learning. I found it very beneficial to work with my team and figure out what kind of care our patient needed and to see how the interventions we put in place affected our patient's outcome. This full circle teaching helped me understand every stage of care of my patient's care and how important it was. I found the simulations to be key in my high acuity
